Tools | Servers and Accounts
Select Albasani, uncheck:
[X] The server requires a secure connection (SSL).

Hello, Roger Sheppard
1. You will need to run some tests to find out.
Here is the first test.
1.1 Go to "Tools » Servers and Accounts"
and disable all news servers except Albasani.
1.2 Make sure that only one news server is enabled,
and that it has SSL off.
1.3 Now try it again and tell us what happens.
2. I cannot look over your shoulder so you will have to give me
some information about your system.
Do you have news.albasani.net entered twice in
"Tools » Servers and Accounts"?
Maybe one copy has SSL turned OFF
and the other copy has SSL turned ON ?
3. I am still waiting for you to post the results after adjusting
Agent 5 to operate the same as Agent 2.
This is quoted from your post on 5 March 2010 which is
archived at http://al.howardknight.net/msgid.cgi?ID=127064441600
| >> NOTE: any way it works 100% with Agent v2.

|
|
| This problem has only come up in the last month and noting that I know of has
| been changed, plus I can post in other groups with no problems like the Test
| one..
|
|
| When I get around to fix it I will post the Info here..

4. You will have to give me some more information about your system.
Do you have two folders in the folders pane,
both of which are subscribed to the same newsgroup
comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.storage ?
The two folders might perhaps be named
"comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.storage"
"comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.storage [2]"
or they might have completely different names.

> None of those Things,
Hello, Roger Sheppard
I hope you have checked all 6 different things.
You did snip and ignore earlier in this problem.
> and I get the same problem with V2
This is now different to what you had posted before...
| Agent V2 does not have this problem..
|
| So Ralph Fox has this beaten you..? -:)
and
| Works OK with Agent v2.
and
| NOTE: any way it works 100% with Agent v2.
|
| So Why all the problems with Agent V5.?
>
> I have tried another News server and that works with no problems, but not all have the same groups.
I did say that it might be your news server...
| >The two most likely causes of this problem are:
| >(1) A crappy news server.
| >(2) A crappy Internet connection.
|
|
| I am on 10mbit Cable
|
| >Can you try a different news server?
|
|
| Works OK with Agent v2.
> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
> If I change the news servers with V5, do I have to subscribe to there groups separately, so say if I
> want to use 3 News servers do I then need to have say 3 copies of nz.comp, or do I have 3 separate

No you do not subscribe to their groups separately.
You have one copy of nz.comp.
Select nz.comp, in the groups/folders pane,
go to "Folder » Properties » News Access Plan", and
select which servers you want to use for nz.comp.
You do not need 3 separate desktops. One desktop is OK for three servers.

Hello again Roger Sheppard
It may be that your avast! is trying to provide SSL, which you don't want.
Check your avast! settings:
Avast UI » Real-time Scanners » Mail Shield » Expert Settings » SSL Accounts
and turn off SSL for your albasani NNTP account.
