Greetings, all.

I was wondering if there are any common German given names that use the
letter ß. As someone with a weird fascination with typographical oddities,
I always wanted to have a name with an Eszett but I've never come across
one.

Regards,
Tristan

Funny, I don't see any ß in "Richard". Does it only appear during certain
phases of the moon? :)

Hello! I am sorry, that I am about 17 years late, but I am also interested in the topic so I may as well put my findings on here. As it turns out, ß was actually quite common in German names until about the 1600s. There are variations of common names, which can be written with ß, eg. :
Mathiß
Johanneß
Andreaß
Clauß
Franß
Hanß
Jaßper

I have also found more unique names. I have uploaded my findings on Wikipædia under "List of words that may be spelled with a ligature" Under names & under the part with the names containing æ & œ. I hope this find is useful.
