what's the etymology of "yadda, yadda, yadda" (sp?)?

is it from the Japanese "yada"?

No, it's from the paleolithic English. One early fragment has recently
been translated: "Fred, did you take out the trash yet?" "No, yada
stop nagging me." In the neolithic and monolithic eras it apparently
developed into a synonym for nagging or unnecessary or meaningless
chatter.

Whaddaya tryna do, get serious about "yadda yadda"? About Mutt & Jeff,
do you mean they were stolen from Japanese sources back in the 1930s
when they were popular? At one time that was among the longest lived
comic strips in US newspapers; I for one read it before WW II.

Ahh, Tanaka, you have changed your signature to something that is sure to
get you in trouble.

Anyway, I think your "yadda yadda yadda" is just a different spelling for
"yada yada yada". At least that is my vote.

Where did you find this?

the phrase became really common in American English in
the last year or so. (why is this?)

is it (from) Yiddish?

that's it.

"yadder yadder yadder" means "blah, blah, blah".

is it Yiddish?

Tanaka-san:

No. This expression is neither from the Japanese nor the Yiddish.

It comes from a phonetic approximation to mindless chatter, "Yadda, yadda",
similar to the expression "Blah, blah, blah!"

It is somewhat like the Japanese expression, "Shabu shabu", referring to a
typed of boiled meat/vegetable dish where the name approximates the sound
of washing clothes in a river or stream.

Tanaka-san. Please note that I do not call you Tanaka-san as white
comedians often do to ridicule the Japanese and Japanese-Americans.
I call you that in what is, in essesnce, an attempt to be respectful.

If you have a problem with that, I can't help you.

Tanaka, why do make racial, biggoted assumptions that this is Yiddish?

Do you hate and disrespect all Jewish people?

While I appreciate the support, & suppression of bigotry, I didn't see
anything that was especially insulting - did I miss something?

Apparently you have missed Tanaka's record of appalling participation in
this NG. Be especially careful not to try to be polite to him. It
invariably boomerangs.

If you have ever followed Tanaka's posts, you would realize that I was
being facecious. An example of Tanaka jumping to conclusions.
