I sometimes wish that the journalists can describe the difference between a 'raid' and a 'search'.

Yes, but it's not "wish" that you want, but "can".

I sometimes 'could' that the journalists can describe the difference
between a 'raid' and a 'search'? No.

I sometimes 'would' that the journalists can describe the difference
between a 'raid' and a 'search'? Nopety dopety.

I presume you're making a "funny".

For the OP - "I wish they would fill my pool with 200 euro notes".

I would like to think that they can/could.

"I sometimes wish that the journos could/knew how to bla bla..."

English is odd.

We should probably await Bill's comment, but to me, it sure doesn't look
like the source for a quote, and since Bill is, apparently, 'a retired
journo', I would guess he meant it as a signature.

I used to do that, but it seemed unnecessary. The only thing I wanted
to say when signing off on a post was "bill". There is no more economical
way to do that than this:

Yes, much like that. A formatted sig takes up more resources than just "bill".

the price.

Which leads us back to the old "proper newsreader" argument. A newsreader
automatically deletes sigs when replying.

There is at least one newsreader - I forget which - that removes
trailing spaces from lines, therefore wrecking the signature separator.
Because of this, there is at least one newsreader (possibly the same
one) that interprets "--" as a signature separator.

Then everyone would know that "200 euro notes" doesn't refer to
1-euro notes.

Even 200 of the largest extant euro notes wouldn't exactly be a
fortune alongside a (swimming?) pool full of 200-euro notes.

So what? Paul is right and one euro notes simply do not exist.
A few people had proposed to introduce them, but they lost the argument.
Most of them live in Italy, where they had 1,000 lire notes before the euro.
1,000 lire = .51 or .52 euro. Quite a lot of Italians did not grasp at
first that coins had become valuable. In particular, 1 and 2 euro coins
are worth more than a 1,000 and even a 2,000 lire note.
Also, the smallest euro note, 5 euros, is worth almost the same as the
old 10,000 lire note and twice the value of the 5,000 lire note.

Out of curiosity, the Czech Republic had 50 crown notes (less than 2
euro) and coins, but later on they kept only the coins. I was told in
Prague that they dropped the notes because the productions of the coins
may be a bit more expensive, but coins last much longer than notes,
especially notes used so often.

Hard to tell. It _is_ bowser after all.

But Google.ca does give a number close to it, 13,200, in fact.

However, it is quite obvious that he either didn't follow the links or

The non-existance of one-Euro notes has nothing to do with the case.

And you are rashly assuming that the magical pool-fillers won't
*create* one-Euro notes.

Are you suggesting that there weren't 38 results in total? Try counting
them yourself; for so few results it takes only a few seconds.

The answer varies by location, of course, and probably other factors.
Today there were only 35 results.

Google's estimated count is often wildly off.

I wonder what they count. When I search for "one euro note" (with
quotes), I am told there are "About 14,800 results (0.64 seconds)".

When I look at "Images for 'one euro note', I see that there are a LOT
of them. I gave up counting at 200.

Interestingly enough, while counting, I came across this image of a one
Euro note:
