I do hope they didn't set "hide quoted text" as the default, as Googly Groups

It's linked to a toggle, the "q" key. Very useful. I'm tinkering
with values of n and m to find the most beneficial.
How difficult is the mother to set up and use?
Even the ancient version of Agent I'm using, ver 1.91, has several
dozen too many features, IMO, that only get in the way. With the
feature explosion most software products experience, my guess is I
wouldn't be happy with Agent 6.

I am running version 1.93. I have tried 2, 3 and 4. Version 4 is
much more complicated than 1.9, and you need to change a lot of
routines and search for paths to functions that have been moved.
Don't bother.

I don't use many of the features Agent introduced since version 1.9x,
as I have only one persona that I use across all newsgroups, but I do
use two servers, nested folders are useful, and "ignore subthread" is
vital to get rid of all conversations involving P Daniels. I imagine
upgrading is fairly seamless; I always found it so.
I try to keep all of my software at the latest level, but Agent is one
of the few products you don't need to unless you want the new
features. The Usenet Agent group provides help on all versions.
I'm using 2.x of Free Agent.
I wanted to register it because I used it a lot, but found I could only
register the latest version, which had e-mail, which I didn't want, and
"desks", which I didn't understand, and F no longer worked for follow-up.

Agent has e-mail in all versions.

Two reasons why I don't want to upgrade. It's annoying that one
cannot register previous versions. But I registered version 1
while it was current.

Based on what you and Bertel said, I don't think I'll bother with the
upgrade. I'm happy enough with Agent, ver 1.91. Thank you both for
your comments.
Until the Vista version of Windows arrived, I generally upgraded my
software to the latest version, too, but from what I've seen or read
about Vista and Windows 7, I'll stick with good old XP.
