>if yi canny unnirston thim jiss clear aff then
If you can't understand them, then clear off!
>gawn

>get tay fuck ootma road
Get out of my way!! :-)

You've met your match.
>ah no whit ahm dayn
I know what I'm doing

>jiss try enny a yir fly patir wi me
Don't try any of your cunning linguistics! ('patter' is the more usual spelling)
>stick thi bootnyi good style
I will get very aggresive!!
>so ah wull
I can assure you.
Doesn't quite sound the same translated does it?
Sounds like 1960s Easterhouse gang talk. What's it's background?

For several weeks now i have heard alot
how good some of these newsgroups are for
finding out info and getting critic on pieces
of prose. One of the most talked about newsgroups
seems to be linked to Genie. I have no idea if this is
similar to Compuserve or not. But damn do i want to get
on it. I have an account on the system here at Waterloo
which is connected to internet, so i was wondering if
there is a way i can get on to Genie from here, any input
would help, since i have no experience with the net.
AA: If anyone knows the cost for a subscribtion to the
board, that would also help..

"I decided I had to get an idea, and the way I did it was
to sit in a chair in my apartment and not get up until I
had an idea. I wouldn't get up for a cigarette, I wouldn't
go to the bathroom, I wouldn't do anything. I forced myself
to sit in that chair and get an idea, a premise for a movie.
And after about two hours I had a premise. And I also had to
go to the bathroom badly." -Sidney Sheldon
> Should that not be rowds? not raods????
I also was struck by the incongruence of "road", but
I was looking more for something like "rude".
Nice stuff, though. Draws a hell of a picture.

GEnie is a commercial service similar to CompuServe, Delphi, etc. It's a
division of General Electric (U.S.). GE has a data network called GEIS
that is used by banks, credit card companies, etc., to transfer
information during day hours. At night and on weekends or holidays, GEnie
users can log in without incurring any hourly fees.
Although GEnie is working on an Internet mail connection, you cannot
telnet or FTP to GEnie. To connect with GEnie, you first set up an
account by calling a toll-free 800-number. After that, you dial a GEIS
node, probably in your city.
GEnie has several hundred ``roundtables'' plus an array of other
services such as electronic shopping, airline guides, wire service news,
etc. Most of the non-computer-related services are part of the ``Basic
Services'' plan, covered by your $4.95/month (U.S., I think it's 5.95 CDN)
basic fee. Computer-related roundtables and downloading of most files
are charged at $6/hour. There also are some library research tools that
are billed at extra fees.
There is a very large, active ``Writers' Ink'' roundtable on GEnie that
is part of Basic Services. It's an interesting place to visit and may
be worth $4.95/month to folks interested in writing. There are hundreds
of topics ranging from poetry to romance writing. The author of the
Indiana Jones paperbacks was writing chapters and posting them online
for discussion a few months ago. In addition to the message base, the
roundtable offers regular ``realtime conferences'' (interactive multiuser
chats) featuring such guests as Tom Clancy. The RTCs are billed at $6/hour.
I'm a GEnie user. I find that the rates are very reasonable, and since
GEnie provides a very nice free front-end program for my computer
(Aladdin), the user interface is tolerable.
Here are the standard instructions for signing up for GEnie.
1. Set your communications software for half duplex (local echo) at
300, 1200, or 2400 baud.
2. Dial toll free: 1-800-638-8369 (or in Canada, 1-800-387-8330).
Upon connection, enter HHH
3. At the U# prompt, enter XTX99436,GENIE then press <return>.
4. Have a major credit card ready. In the U.S., you may also use your
checking account number.
For more information in the United States or Canada, call 1-800-638-
9636 or write: GEnie, c/o GE Information Services, P.O. Box 6403,
Rockville, MD 20850-1785.

Rowed and road are pronounced the same in Glasgow though their meanings are
different. It's the right one for someone from Glasgow.
But you're from St Andrews so you should know this!!!
DEFINITELY NOT raod! :-)
If you use 9600 its $18/hour during the 6pm-8am portion, and there is no
Basic*Service (the $4.95/month). I don't know what the prime-time 9600
rate is, but it's phenominal (to me).
