I'm originally from Mississippi, where there are some interesting archaic forms still in usage which have (unfortunately) vanished in much of the English speaking world.
I just realised that "subtlity" with a clearly pronounced B, is such an archaic form.
It's the form I've always used, at least in spoken english. As my spell checker was refusing
to recognize it, I looked it up :

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/subtility

It appears to be an archaic form of subtlety.

Sigh :-(

I live in the UK, and I've never been to Mississippi. And I've never
previously heard "subtlity", or "subtility" either.

"Subtility" suggests a sub-standard utility company, like an electrical
power generating company that only manages to produce electricity
a couple of days a week.

Though I can imagine somebody coming across the word "subtlety"
for the first time, pronouncing it "subtlity" with a clearly pronounced B.

Do Americans do subtlety? Perhaps they don't have much use for the
word, and it is but rarely encountered Over There?

We mostly use it about Wily Foreigners.
