"Sheer" in this context means complete, pure. It's the most fun
possible, with nothing to spoil it.

"Sheer", in this context, is used to mean "a great deal of" or "very
much", or - as the dictionary defines it - "unqualified".

You need to be more specific, or you'll get a gorilla in a see-through
nightie.

One of the functions of "sheer" is as an intensifier, e.g.
sheer pleasure, sheer horror, a sheer drop, etc. The
last of these has also a literal topographic meaning, a
cliff or something similar, which overlaps its function
as an intensifier.

These meanings do not overlap with other meanings,
as for sheer textiles etc.
