Hello everyone,
First of all, thanks for a very exhaustive discussion on "can't find the
right word".
Now something easy. The other day I heard an expression "same deal" on the
radio but missed the context since I wasn't listening carefully.

I understand it means "the same situation/problem here" but I also gather it
is rather informal. How about if I wanted to express the same meaning on a
formal occasion. Does anybody know any kind of a formal or neutral
expression/idiom equivalent to "same deal"?

Regards
Gregory

Perhaps...

informal: same deal, dude!

formal: we have a similar/comparable/not dissimilar situation here.

Hello Gregory,
My name is Sadie-Phoenix Lavoie, Community Coordinator with Waniskatan: Alliance of Indigenous Communities impacted by Hydro. I am currently from Sagkeeng First Nation and have participated in the Sagkeeng Hydro Accord for both votes. When we state that it was the same deal, it was literally the same negotiated agreement that was put to a vote not only once, but twice. Clearly saying NO the first time wasn't enough for MB Hydro, so the community had to vote NO a second time at a later date with the same negotiated deal from Hydro to get our point across that the Sagkeeng membership decided that the compensation accord was inadequate and that we wanted our community to go back to negotiations for a better deal.
That is why Sagkeeng is in another set of negotiations with Manitoba Hydro for a better compensation agreement. The license that Hydro has with Sagkeeng expired in 2006 and so it's to compensate since then up to date, as well two Hydro projects that were later added to the licence without proper negotiations with the community until after the licence was already expired. Does this make sense? If you have any further questions, feel free to email me at sa...@hydroimpacted.ca
Miigwetch (Thank You),
Sadie-Phoenix Lavoie
