i heard it in a monologue of descriptors and definitions for Borat and Ali G.

But when searched all i could find was a link to this text -- is it a madeup word

The page you found, doesn't have the word "virtch". Neither had
another page that Google suggested. They are false Google hits.

I can't help you with the word. Dictionary.com does not know it.

It looks like a nonce word formed from "virtual reality."

You can hear it used at ~ 21" into the first minute of the introduction to this 2006 PRI broadcast on Sasha Baron Cohen http://radioopensource.org/the-pain-of-borat/

in the pages displayed all it said was some refrain about "teepers not Virtching" and "Virtching, not teeping" ... WETFTI?

It may mean going into a synthetic world. "Virtual world"?

When is it appropriate and not to use a word like this with questionable Currency?

When the context makes it apparent what is intended.

I am constantly building my own glossary of sorts I call my BWT (Better Word Than) in which i'm always entering new less-awkward terms or constructions followed by whatever i previously considered were the more-awkward words or constructions -- simply an annotated word thingy in which I enter a new word, term or string followed by "BWT" followed by the old familiar previous word or string I was more accustomed to. In reality though I seldom if ever used it -- but you can see it's simply a formula for using BWT as an equal=sign and where 'virtching' was another example of how nouns and adjectives become verbs and gerunds as in how 'gift' prolly became 'gifting'. In this case though i can only assume 'virching' could also be an argument for morphing 'irony' into 'ironing' to suggest how easily 'irony' can be precipitated as a desired process and effect when 'virching' Borat, which is what i think the author who coined and cited the terms were suggesting was the phenomena in progress i.e. of precipitating parody and sardonic irony as a product of the character Borat.

Care to post a few examples from your BWT dictionary? Might be on
interest for some.

i'm almost inclined to copy paste the whole damn thing but then there's prolly too many names addresses and other incriminating stuff i ought take a look at first and delete -- if i see anything interesting and not purely copy pasted from a dictionary or thesaurus i'll let you know
