I was surprised by the reference to Australia, because I'd never heard
of such an attack. We have a lot of white sheep and a few black sheep,
and the general belief is that they're all of the same race. We don't
have any green or rainbow sheep. It's a little difficult to tell whether
a sheep is happy.
Anyway, a bit of googling found me an article that refers to a
kindergarten in Victoria. One of the people offended by the teachers'
action (which also included an opinion that it was sexist to refer to
the little boy down the lane) came up with a new version:
Blah blah, that sheep
Are you having a good day?
I sure hope so
Because I wouldn’t want to offend you
In any way.
Google also pointed me to an article mentioning a school in North
Queensland, but most of the article was about Britain. It did, however,
include this:
"In other examples, the principal of a school in NSW last year adapted
the lyrics from Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree so children would
say how happy, rather than gay, his life must be."
It's a good thing we don't have any songs about white swans, which form
a minority group in this country.
