mailing to AOL

Folks on AOL don't see my messages from mailx. Also, I sent a .txt
attachment once and I saw it with my own eyes that it got there blank.
Yet some people who had trouble reading my mail no do ok, and other
AOL users have no problem. Is it the version of their software or is
it some setting they mis-set? What can I do from my side to deal with
those not skilled to understamd?
