Hello, brothers and sisters.

I was recently expelled from my local. This is my situation: I was
totally broke (there was little to no work offered through my local)
and decided to take a touring job to make my rent. I had not called in
to announce my availabilty to my dispatcher for that entire time, as I
figured it would the right thing to do since I was on tour and not
available for work. And this is my bad ,as they say...in that time I
did not pay my dues, and accrued two quarters of arrears in the
process. So I owe the local $120. They send me a registered letter on
the 24th of December stating that if I don't pay up, I'm done. I
emailed them on the 28th (ish) and pleaded for an extention. Bear in
mind, I am not a bad stagehand. In fact, there are 4 or 5 venues in my
town that specifically request me for focus calls and running crew.
This is what these people, who I work with all the time and am part and
parcel of their union, say:

"The Executive Board of Local *** discussed your situation. We have no
provision in our rules to allow for an extension past the already
generous six months you have been given. Therefore, we are denying your
appeal and you will be officially expelled from Membership of Local
***. "

I emailed the office to ask what my next move should be. Can I start
over on the permit list? Is this it; am I just DONE? No response.

This is what I want to know: is there a process (if I must go over
local heads, I will) to appeal this decision? What are my rights, as
an IASTE member and a human being here? Why do these people hate me?

Am I out of line to be amazed at the fact that I am being kicked to the
curb, after 5 years of good service to my local, over the
aforementioned chump change?

Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time. Please feel free to email me at:

Cheers!
