When the Sheriff asked a group of small grey tourists who
were holding a bar-b-que 136 miles from Flagstaff if they
knew anything, the Greys said that they were strangers here
themselves and offered the Sheriff a hamburger.
Anyone with information leading to the culprits can contact
the Sheriff's office after he returns from the cook-out.
If once a man indulges himself in murder, very soon he comes to think
little of robbing, and from robbing he comes next to drinking and
Sabbath-breaking, and from that to incivility and procrastination.
Thomas De Quincey - Murder Considered as One of the Fine Arts
Do you really find the mutilation and destruction of helpless farm
animals funny? Or the destruction of a business person's property,
to the tune of $10,000, if you prefer to put it that way?
Gee, you're a REAL nice guy, twitch.
Or maybe you're just paid to carry on with the ridicule in cases like this,
to deflect people from actually THINKING about what was reported, and
starting to wonder what in the Heck is going on.
Which is it, twitch? Are you a paid DI agent, or just an immoral,
uncaring sonofabitch?

No.
But I do find funny the assinine reasons that some people
come up with to explain it.
It is sort of like the people who think that the CIA FOIA
documents show a massive cover-up so we won't find out about
them having alien spacecraft.
Or people who believe that the AF has consistently changed
their story on Roswell.
We have a lot of loonies on these newsgroups.

Hell, I am the one who posts real info, unlike those idiots
that claim that the CIA FOIA documents show a cover-up or
that the AF has consistently changed its tune about Roswell.

That's probably why there are NO UFO's in Egypt. I mean, I know it

Letter to Scientific American

_________________________________________________________________
Preface: One of the questions frequently asked in ufology is how long
the UFO phenomenon has been around. This letter-to-editor of
Scientific American, although proof of nothing, seems highly
suggestive of some of the more recent, and well-documented sightings,
e.g. the Cash-Landrum Case of December 29, l980, near Houston, Texas.
The letter was published in the December 18, 1886, issue of that
magazine.

CURIOUS PHENOMENON IN VENEZUELA
To the Editor of the Scientific American:
The following brief account of a recent strange meteorological
occurrence may be of interest to your readers as an addition to the
list of electrical eccentricities:
During the night of the 24th of October last, which was rainy and
tempestuous, a family of nine persons, sleeping in a hut a few leagues
from Maracaibo, were awakened by a loud humming noise and a vivid,
dazzling light, which brilliantly illuminated the interior of the
house.
The occupants completely terror stricken, and believing, as they
relate, that the end of the world had come, threw themselves on their
knees and commenced to pray, but their devotions were almost
immediately interrupted by violent vomitings, and extensive swellings
commenced to appear in the upper part of their bodies, this being
particularly noticeable about the face and lips.
It is to be noted that the brilliant lights was not accompanied by a
sensation of heat, although there was a smoky appearance and a
peculiar smell.
The next morning, the swellings had subsided, leaving upon the face
and body large black blotches. No special pain was felt until the
ninth day, when the skin peeled off, and these blotches were
transformed into virulent raw sores.
The hair of the head fell off upon the side which happened to be
underneath when the phenomenon occurred, the same side of the body
being , in all nine cases, the more seriously injured.
The remarkable part of the occurrence is that the house was uninjured,
all doors and windows being closed at the time.
No trace of lightning could afterward by observed in any part of the
building, and all the sufferers unite in saying that there was no
detonation, but only the loud humming already mentioned.
Another curious attendant circumstance is that the trees around the
house showed no signs of injury until the ninth day, when they
suddenly withered, almost simultaneously with the development of the
sores upon the bodies of the occupants of the house.
This is perhaps a mere coincidence, but it is remarkable that the same
susceptibility to electrical effects, with the same lapse of time,
should be observed in both animal and vegetable organisms.
I have visited the sufferers, who are now in one of the hospitals of
this city; and although their appearance is truly horrible, yet it is
hoped that in no case will the injuries prove fatal.

>Euston, yes, we have a problem.
I nicked this joke from a joke in a British satirical magazine, Private
Eye. It's based on the fact that British trains don't run well when
there are leaves on the lines. In the cartoon, a train company employee
is speaking anxiously into his mobile, while looking at a single leaf on
the track: 'Euston, we have a problem,' he says.
Euston is a station in London. It also sound like Houston.
Hence the famous line fom Apollo 13 or Gemini 11 or whatever it was:
'Houston, we have a problem.'

Header:Close encounter
Sub-header: Illinois man convinced he saw a UFO 75 years ago
Byline: Len Wells
MOUNT ERIE, Ill. — It's been 75 years since Norman Massie led a team
of horses into a pasture near his Mount Erie home, looked up and saw
what he is convinced to this day was a spaceship.
"You can call me anything you want, but I know in my heart and in my
mind what I saw that evening, and it was some kind of spaceship,"
Massie said.
Massie, 85, was 10 years old when he encountered the object. The
retired high school math teacher and coach says he kept quiet about
the incident until 1990 because his father told him never to breathe
a word about what he saw because "people would talk."
Massie's UFO sighting happened in June 1923 on the family farm in
northern Wayne County.
"I opened the gate to let the horses into the pasture. I let them
through, and as I was closing the gate I looked back down the field
and there was an object with lights all around it," Massie said.
"I kept walking closer to the object until I got about 50 feet away.
I stood there and watched the five men who were on board."
Massie described the men as being about 4* feet tall with blond hair.
"I got close enough that I could hear them talk," Massie said. "One
guy sat in a chair and the others called him the commander. Four
others made trips back and forth in the ship. I didn't know what was
going on until the end."
Massie claims he heard one of the crew members tell his commander
that "the repairs had been made."
"The machine was metallic and stood on three legs. The top was a dome
with holes in it. The best way I could describe the top was it looked
like melted glass," Massie said.
The encounter lasted only about five minutes, Massie said. "In a
minute, it came to a hovering position. The tripod legs telescoped up
into the belly of the thing, and it went straight up about 200 feet
and whizzed off to the west like a bullet," he said.
Startled by what he saw, Massie says he ran home and told his
parents, Grover and Laura Massie, and his 8-year-old brother,
Lyveere.
"Mom and Dad tried to convince me that I really hadn't seen anything,
and was making up the whole thing," he said.
He says his dad announced he wanted no member of his family
mentioning the incident to anyone because they might think Norman was
"crazy in the head, or an idiot."
Massie broke his silence on the matter in 1990 when he told his son,
Jerry, who was a colonel in the Air Force at the time.
"When I got done telling him the whole story he told me there was
nothing wrong with me, that the Air Force files are full of pictures
of UFOs. He accepted my story as the truth."
Massie says he's convinced the object had to come from somewhere
other than Earth. "It doesn't bother me one bit that people might
think I'm a crazy old man. In my own mind and my own heart, it
existed and I saw it with my own two eyes."

CAUS has just received another report on the triangular UFO seen and
videotaped in France. This report is from Mary Turner (ma...@southwind.net):
I just read this in tomorrow's (Friday) edition of the Télégramme
newspaper in Brest, France. I did a quick translation for you, the
original article in French can be read at:
http://www.bretagne-
online.tm.fr:80/telegram/htdocs/archive/1998/19980814/article/4191418.htm
A triangular UFO has overflown the Ardennes region
An unidentified flying object (UFO) of triangular form moving at a low
altitude over the region of Sedan and of Carignan (in the Ardennes
region of France) was observed by at least 150 people at the beginning
of the week, said the French Center for UFO Studies official in charge
of the region (département).
Reconnaissance patrol
"On the night of Monday to Tuesday, it was first noticed at a high
altitude and then vertically descending from Charleville-Mézières,
before making a sort of reconnaisance patrol over some thirty locales
around Sedan", he indicated.
"We have a short film made that night by two young amateur
videographers", he clarified. "The craft, a large triangle with rounded
edges, with a point turned in the direction of flight, had two red
points of light at the rear and a large white one at the front. These
lights did not blink. Two vapor trails were visible at the rear of the
UFO flying at some 500 meters in altitude", he added.
"It turned slowly above the inhabited zones as if on a spy mission, then
moved on before recommencing its spinning above another locality. I
finally disappeared behind a hill and has not been seen since", he
added.
A strange muffled sound
According to him, it could not have been a spy plane, because of its
circular motion at low altitude, not a meteorite because its flight was
horizontal, nor a comet much higher at a fixed position in the sky, nor
a helicopter or a known aircraft because of the muffled sound which was
sufficiently strange to excite the curiosity of numerous persons.
