i didnt see the battle in the bayou but i was told that in an alternate match a
BOXER, laverne clark, beat the hell out of brazillian jui jitsu stylist josh
stewart. is this true? if so, it shows that boxing can be just as effective
as anything else, or maybe that a real fighter can use any style & dominate.
one way or another, its good to see some other fighters learning how to win in
the ufc without having to devote their lives to learning jui jitsu.

Actually, from what I heard. (I didn't see it) That fight was stopped too fast
and there was no damage at all on either fighters part.

That all depends on what "beat the hell" means. The Jiu-Jitsu fighter got
up and walked fine, and didn't seem to have any *visible* damage. His
strategy was not very good (he should have forgotten about the leg and
attempted a sweep), IMO, and a good submission fighter with a good game plan
would have taken him apart.

The fight was stopped too fast and Clark really wasn't a pure boxer. I
think he was a state wrestling champ or something. He also had some
training with Pat Miletich. There are no pure styles anymore.

yeah this was peretti's sick little joke. he puts some spindly kid who looks
like he's dying of cancer and undergoing intensive chemotherapy treatments in
there and they say he's representing "rickson gracie jiu jitsu."

har har peretti you are one sick fuck.

Josh wasn't really that good. He had NO stand-up skills and everytime he
got hit he covered up and lost whatever hold he had on the other guy. At
one point he had a pretty good ankle or knee lock going but then got
smacked and let it go. They stopped the fight way too early so he could
have pulled a win out of his ass eventually but he was basically just
over-powered and out-aggressed.

Hahah... Did you see Josh Stewart. He looked like a little, unhealthy
kid with a big head! Laverne Clark showed very little talent and was
almost in position to receive a leglock until Hamilton stepped in for no
apparent reason (Josh was far from hurt). A very mediocre fight in any
event. Stewart was as far from a BJJ stylist as Laverne was from being a
good boxer. Both of these guys should have been screened.

I think that was Powder fighting. He should have just shot electricity
into the other guy or made the boxer feel the pain that he did after he
was punched.

Both fighters sucked, the fight should not have been stopped. The boxers
punches were being blocked left and right by the mans arms.

You can't win all the time, but you can't lose forever.

Josh Stewart was ROBBED!

That fight was stopped way too early. Stewart had no visual damage and
was defending himself well. The ref had no cause to stop that fight.
Stewart had the potential to take down Laverne Clark and submit him so
this fight was basicly ruined by faulty reffing. Fights like this make
me appreciate Big John.

Also Stewart was a boxing/wrestling crosstrainer, like Don Frye. Pat
Miletich was announced to be a Thai Boxer, but I saw him using some
good Jiu-Jitsu in the octagon. Just because a fighter is announced to
be one style, that dosn't make him a pure practitioner of that style.

The fight wasn't unlike the Bohlander / Jackson fight in that you have a
bigger and stronger guy overpowering the submission guy. The difference
was that Bohlander had the time (and the ability) to pull off a win.

Hahaha! Now that you mention it, he looked exactly like powder. But a
little smaller. Maybe kid-powder or something.

The boxer was getting to him and was 1 punch away from really hurting powder! I
think it was stopped a little too fast too but Powder was going down anyway!!
