You can live very well for $500 a month.... small apartment rent if
you look around for $100 a month. Food at five dollars a day
frugally, thats $150 a month is about as cheap as you can get... you
can over stay your visa or extend it by having passport sent to
mexico for a new stamp $40 every 3 months, Maid service is $100 a
month, Cheap hotel at 7 dollars a night, to retire there it takes
a proven income of $1,000 a month however, Belize is english
speaking, locations at 1200 to 1500 meters, or 6,000 ft are spring
like year round. if you dont look like you are carrying a lot of
money its reasonably safe. Its safer if you friendly..
Air fair requires round trip ticket get a visa as the border, $700.
or you can take the bus for about the same money when you add in the
time on the road and food etc. Lago (lake) atitlan in guatamala is
real nice at those prices, Living rurally is much cheaper much more
rustic and a lot cheaper... but bandits are a problem dont travel at
night, Otherwise the locals like americans for some reason
Broadband is cheap and as good as the US hot spots are in most hotels
even small ones, those are the best deals, family owned with kids and
a wifi connections. tourist prices are high, US price ranges, the
prices I mentioned are local prices at ten room type local not tourist
hotels, food stores and markets.
www.hobotraveler..com or dot net. or on youtube, Andy Graham, has a
web site for each of the 90+ countries he has visited, and has
searched out the cheapest hotels etc. each town has an american expat
community and notice boards for expats at their hang outs. Taxi's
called tuk tuks are a dollar per ride or less. ,,
