Living in Australia, our videos aren't typically set up for NTSC. Does
anyone know where I can purchase videos that are standard, garden-variety
VHS???

They have just started selling the videos in the UK which has the same
system as Aus I think. Sadly we have only had episodes 1&2 of S1 so far, but
if you go to www.blackstar.co.uk I THINK they are doing free worldwide
postage. Check on that, but if so should be good for you.

Except the US format is NTSC so this is not what Ms. Smith wants

'standard VHS' aka PAL tapes of the Xena and Herc series have recently
become available as stated in another reply, but the Herc films, The
Herc/Xena animated film, and the Xena Trilogy have been available in
Australia since the beginning of the year. I know, because I got the
Trilogy and the animated movie when I was out there.

Note: NTSC came before PAL. PAL is a modified version of NTSC which has
better signal quality by changing the format of the signal. This is why
you can get dual PAL/NTSC VCRs.

NTSC tapes are also 'standard, garden-variety VHS'. Just the programme on
the tape is recorded in a different format.

At the moment, there is only 1 PAL format Xena tape for sale. This tape
has the first two episodes of Season 1. It's available from several shops
in the UK, and a few places online. http://www.blackstar.co.uk is probably
about the best.

More tapes are due to be released, but it'll take a time to get around to
the rest of the episodes. If you are in a hurry for the other episodes,
you are better of asking someone to dub them for you.

US format tapes are NTSC. And are not what Deborah is after, as she can't
play them.

Thanks for all the help Guys! :) Appreciate support of the NG. Looks like
I'm soon to be an NTSC/PAL compatible video player!!!

Ciao!

Deb.

P.S. Isn't it pathetic: Australia is closer to NZ than the lot of you, and
we
are sorely neglected!!!

Xena has only just started to be released in the UK (we're on volume
1.1/1.2), and we use the same PAL system as Australia. I use Bensons at
www.videos.demon.co.uk, as they're fast and reliable.

Some of us have PAL versions of episodes.
