It's time to vote on the proposed changes to this newsgroup's FAQ. Once
again, I will post the FAQ as it now stands for comparison.

Voting will last through next Sunday. A 3/4 majority opinion is required
for each change in order for it to be implemented.

***

The following would be added at the bottom of the FAQ.

* Posters to ATX-SM must exhibit at least one logorrhea of the mouth
event to be considered regular.

***

The following would be added in between the Charter and the Rules section
of the current FAQ.

Motto:
We are still confused, but at a higher level.
-- Danish comedian Peter Larsen

***

A sentence would be added to explain the commonly used abbreviation ADA.

Q: What’s with all the abbreviations used on the newsgroup?
A: Folks discussing Xena tend to abbreviate almost any term which is used
often. This includes episode titles, commonly used phrases, and the names
of the Xena-related newsgroups. One common abbreviation used only in this
newsgroup is ADA, which stands for Absurdly Deep Analysis. For a list of
other commonly used abbreviations, read alt.tv.xena’s FAQ. You can find
it at http://www.bigfoot.com/~p.hilling/atx-faq.htm

***

We would remove this portion of the FAQ, since nobody has asked this
question in over a year.

Q: Does Xena do porn?
A: Several people have asked the group this. Since pornography in the
modern sense didn’t exist in Xena’s time, she didn’t "do porn." Nor does
the modern-day actress who plays Xena, Lucy Lawless, do porn. However, if
you would like to imagine Xena doing porn, go right ahead. That’s your
prerogative.

***

We would remove this portion of the FAQ, because the joke makes less
sense now that the FAQ for alt.tv.xena-subtext is shorter.

Q: Is it just me, or is this FAQ file shorter than most of the other
ones I’ve read (especially newsgroups in the alt.tv.xena heirarchy)?
A: Yes. Aren’t you glad? :-)

***

The following are URL changes due to web sites that have moved.

The alt.tv.xena FAQ
-------------------
listed as: http://freespace.virgin.net/p.hilling/atx-faq.htm
should be: http://www.bigfoot.com/~p.hilling/atx-faq.htm

listed as: http://www.xenite.org/faqs/subtext.htm
should be: http://www.heckman.net/erin/subtext.htm

---------------------------------
listed as: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Boulevard/8035/halls/
should be: http://www.crosswinds.net/~golightly/
new name: The Abbeye of Innuendo

***

The following web site would be removed, as the site no longer exists.

CB's Xena Parodies
------------------
listed as: http://members.tripod.com/~Fruit_2/CBparody.html

***

The following web sites would be added to the FAQ.

Subtextopedia (various forms of subtext)
-------------
http://subtext.simplenet.com/

--------------
http://www.xenadom.com

That concludes the proposed changes.

My votes regarding the FAQ:

I vote yea for everything, except for the "logorrhea of the mouth to be
considered regular" addition. I feel we don't need to make less verbose
people feel unwelcome here.

I agree with that; _we_ know it's a joke, but sure as anything, some people
reading the FAQ will think it's a serious requirement and be put off by it. So
I vote "no" on inclusion of the "logorrhea" requirement (although I think it
should go into the "Swish" parody! <eg>).

On the other hand, I _do_ like the joke in the Q & A about this FAQ being
shorter than others, and vote to keep it in despite the changes to the atx-s
FAQ-- I've always taken that line as a dig at the main group's 5-part monster,
and feel it's still relevant. ;-)

I vote "yes" on all the other changes.

I vote no on the logorhea, no to removing the does Xena do porn (the usenet
is, by its nature, full of newbies) yes to everything else.

Yes, the joke doesn't make sense any more since just the ATX FAQ is
long now. Hmmm. . . Is the ATX-SM FAQ now longer than the ATX-S FAQ?

There is already a link to the GJRS website, which if it doesn't already,
should have a link to the above webpage. There is little point in sticking
in another G/J URL, if one that's already in the FAQ covers the G/J spectrum
already. </pedant>

I vote in favor of the whole thing.

I'd give my reasons, but I believe I've already met my logorrhea quotient.

Also, to prove that there is no cabal, no voting bloc, no unanimous
consentaneous herd of sheep, no ... oh wait, I've already met my quotient,

I kinda liked the whole thing, but don't really object to taking out the "XDP"

I have no opinion on whether or not this should be in the FAQ, but I
would like to point out that you've got the expression wrong. "Logorrhea
of the mouth" is redundant. "Logorrhea" *means* "diarreaha of the mouth"
all by itself. It should be

* Posters to ATX-SM must exhibit at least one logorrhea event to be
considered regular.

or better yet

* Posters to ATX-SM must exhibit at least one episode of logorrhea to be
considered regular.

Also, you've still got the curly quotes problem.

I think we can safely modify the language/grammar problem in retrospect
without changing anybody's vote. I like your second iteration better
also.

I know. I said I would fix the problem when I changed the FAQ, and I
haven't changed it yet.

I know, I just wanted to make sure you hadn't already tried. From what I
hear from fic writers, it can be really hard to completely get rid of
them. It's a constant problem in fanfic ngs.
