I would have told him I didn't really understand and could he
demonstrate the difference between the Mulder kiss and the Marita kiss
on me...you know, purely for understanding purposes. ;-D

I am home early, but that is just b/c my dad starved me so we could leave.
Anyway, the expo was awesome.
I will spare you the surroundings, and go straight to the guests. Nick Lea
explained the kiss, he said he thought it was hilarious, and it DID NOT mean he
was gay. He said it was like a good luck kiss, like a (flicks off the
audiance) kiss, not a gay kiss. Mitch Pileggi is moving to L.A. Now why would
he move all the way to L.A.? He also said the secretary in Bad Blood was his
wife. Interesting tidbit of info there. He also said the best scene he did
was where he beat up ratboy, and continously made fun of Nick Lea. Then while
he was talking Nick came up and pinched him on the butt. It was really funny.
Then this guy from the audience asked him to say "This is where you pucker up
and kiss my ass." and he did! Nick also said the show would most likely stay
on for two more years, though he wasn't sure about the move to LA.
The setup was really good, the lines weren't really long, and it was really
fun. (except the airplanes got annoying....) Well, that's about it.

Well, we really didn't expect Nick to *admit* it, did we? (Heck, I'm surprised
the writers admitted as much as they did!)

And keep in mind that Nick also claims that Krycek is just a misunderstood kid
who got in over his head, and that he was just standing in the bathroom when a
drive-by shooter killed Mulderdad.

Trust no one -- especially if he works for 1013. :-)

Well, that account of the Dallas Expo sure sounded great ! I loved the part
where Mitch Pileggi said his wife was the secretary on Bad Blood and he is
moving to L.A. and that means the show is MOVING too !! This is great news !

It doesn't mean that at all. As often as Mitch is on the show, he
could move to London, and still get there with no problem "as needed".

My favorite was when Pileggi called Lea "RRRRRatboy!" And when Lea came up and
pinched his butt. Classic.

He's only saying this on the advice of his lawyer. He has to remember
the one about the militia truck driver who decided to commit suicide by
shooting himself in the head rather than be captured by the FBI. ;-D

I know he lived in Vancouver long before xf, but I could swear I read
somewhere that he'd moved to LA to further his acting career. Could be

Oh, yes, right. And don't forget, he didn't mean to hit the tram operator with
his gun. He was just trying to kill a creepy-crawly bug on the guy's head.
And he knocked Luis Cardinal's aim up, so the shot would miss Scully, not
realizing it was the taller Missy who came in the door. When he ordered
Vassily Peskow to stop the evil black cancer experiments, he didn't realize the
guy was going to *kill* anyone. And he didn't lay a hand on Dmitri. He was
out of breath because he was upset at the kid's condition, not because he was
whaling on him. Lastly, he most definitely did *not* kiss Mulder. He was just
leaning over to discreetly tell Mulder that his fly was open, when Mulder's
cheek hit his mouth.

Hey, *what* sarcasm? I was perfectly serious, I tell you.

And BTW, Nick did live in LA for awhile, but moved to Toronto when he did ONCE
A THIEF. ONCE A THIEF wrapped in December 1997, and since then he's been
living in Vancouver. But he told us at the SF Expo that he'd signed papers for
a place down in LA, and would be moving in at the end of this month.

Also, there's a nice picture of Nick at Entertainment Weekly online:

http://cgi.pathfinder.com/ew/features/980327/xfiles/aliens.html

The text even mentions The Kiss... :-)

I wasn't at Dallas, but a friend of mine was. She put her account at her web
page:

http://members.aol.com/nicci73813/dallexpo.htm

It's hiliarious! She was the one who asked him about The Kiss. Nick said
that, contrary to what the writers said at LA, the kiss was scripted from the
very beginning. He denied there was anything homoerotic about it, then reveals
that the director (who was CC, right?) kept telling him,"Closer to the mouth,
closer to the mouth"! LOL! He also said it took almost 20 takes to do it,
because every time he and DD looked at each other, they cracked up laughing.

One guy asked Nick if he knew about the M/K romance stories on the net. He
said of course he did, and that he didn't think there would be a M/K romance on
the show...but added that with XF, you never know!

He also told a funny story about being strip-searched by customs agents....

I also heard from someone who was there Sunday. Nick said there that the
reason Krycek kissed Mulder was because Mulder had such nice, soft skin. And
he said the script called for him to kiss Mulder on the corner of the mouth,
not the cheek. (Hmmmm....)

Mitch and Nick were funny together. On Saturday, Mitch called Nick out on the
stage by calling, "Ratboy!" Nick retaliated by pinching Mitch's butt. On
Sunday, Mitch stroked Nick's hair and said, "Isn't he pretty?" Nick replied,
"Thanks, Dad," and later commented, "Isn't he cute?"

Sounds like the Expo was a little better organized this time, too. I think
they are finally getting a bit of a clue....

Dallas Expo Meets Expectations

DALLAS - On March 21, 1998, a continuous line of cars headed to Mustang
Hangar in Dallas to participate in the X-Files Expo. Touted as an interactive way
to engage participants in all things X-Files, it was a grandoise effort to
pick-pocket the participants while distracting them with stars' commentary,
which in turn, brought in some rather disturbing participants in and of
themselves.

Thankfully, there was enough parking, although there was a fee of two dollars
associated with the parking privilege. Entrance to the event was 25 dollars,
although if you were hoping to charge admission, then you needed to fork over
another two bucks for that convenience.

Upon exiting a small entrance maze, one was welcomed with a full view of the
Expo. Grasping the gratuitous Evidence Bag in hand, this reporter scoped out the
lines. They did not appear to be too long, but then, there were cleverly contrived
routing patterns that hid the truth from the fans, in typical X-File fashion.
Fortunately, the waiting seemed to pass quickly, even for autographs.

Once inside the Expo, the merchandising frenzy was obvious. It was a contest to
see how much "stuff" one could aquire from simply dropping from the exhaustion
of lines and lack of dough. In addition, the diversity of the merchandise seemed
to be lacking, especially in the small items for purchase, with the exception of
postcards. If an attendee wanted a small, inexpensive keychain, well, it was best
forgotten -- nothing under ten dollars, here. Some pricing, as follows:
Keychains: $11-20
T-Shirts: $18-20
Posters: $10
Scripts: $13 (The Pilot, Small Potatoes, Leonard Betts, Home)
Postcards: $1
Pictures: $5
Mulder's office: $3
Sodas while on line: $2
Fan Club membership: $30 (you get a free 'Fight the Future' poster if you join.
Join early, by 4 pm they were gone.)
FREE stuff:
X-Files quiz
Intrigue photo (not positive, didn't do it because there was the possibility of
having to shell out another $3, and not having anything left for gas -- read in
another post that it was free.)
Autographs
Chances to win the X-Files Expo tour jacket
Digital photos taken by Expo photographers

On the brighter side, the actors made the Expo, especially Dean Haglund, who was
hilarious. When approaching him in the autograph area, he commented on my
ATX badge, saying that he does occasionally lurk in the group. So, beware this
self-appointed Dean Haglund watchdog, and speak no bad of him. One little girl
got Mitch's autograph and walked by Dean. He was shocked that she could wait
so long in line and then not even reap the full benefits of the finish.

All of the speakers at the Expo, which included Kim Manners, Dean Haglund, Nic
Lea and Mitch Pileggi, were quite informative and responsive to the questions
that they were asked. They were definitely the high point of the Expo, and the
fact that they choose to participate in promoting their own show and supporting
their fans is fabulous. What is disheartening is that Chris Carter advertised and
pushed this event as being an interactive experience for the fans, unlike any
convention, but he, the creator of the X-Files, will not appear at even one of the
Expos on the tour.

The Expo was exactly as envisioned, except the waiting time felt much shorter. A
merchandising blitz, with an amount of young twits. One young Scullyist, who
had completed the look so completely as to inspire drool and thoughts of jailtime,
when asked what affiliation was indicated by the big red 'X' she was wearing,
couldn't even answer, she was so breathlessly enamoured by Nic Lea. Her
less-successfully-dyed-red-head friend piped in, "the Internet," and ran off.

Now, "the Internet" is a very large web of sites, including gophers, newsgroups,
search engines, chat, IRC, and yes, the Official X-Files Website, which is what this
reporter inferred she was referring to when she indicated the internet as her
affiliation. Apparently, many of these young people have no knowledge of the
finer medium of newsgroups that proliferate the Internet. It makes one wonder
if this young Scully clone is even aware of the OBSSE.

The X-Files Expo is definitely an experience, and one that won't be forgotten too
soon. However, it is only what it was advertised to be, and nothing more, if not
less. There have been several excellent suggesstions on alt.tv.x-files as to how to
improve the Expo, and they should not be taken lightly. Seeing bad X-Files clips
and checking out the 'exclusive' site doesn't quite seem 'interactive.' Dean
Haglund's show, however, was wonderfully interactive. More rides! More games!
More virtual reality! More behind-the-scenes! C'mon, Fox, you can do better
than this.

As a post-script, Nancy Cotton from OBSSE found me waiting on the line for
autographs, and later introduced me to the widly-praised Autumn T. It was
disappointing, however, that I did not encounter more ATXers than that. Where
were you guys?? Ah, well, there will be the OBSSE function in June . . . .

He lived in Toronto from March 1997 to December 1997. ONCE A THIEF was filmed
in a studio on Fleet St. Not sure where he hung out. I doubt he had much time
for it. He *starred* in OAT, and it filmed long hours, often at night. (Much
like XF, only they weren't quite as organized, from what I've heard.)

Several fans reported seeing Nick around Toronto last year. Not hanging out,
filming on location. He was always very nice and friendly, signing autographs
and talking about XF and Krycek.

But Nick wasn't very happy in Toronto, I gather. Too "big-city" for a
Vancouver boy.
