Q: Where are the ftp sites for X-Files material?
A: (*) mtp034.mis.semi.harris.com in /xfiles
cybercow.rh.uchicago.edu in /pub/Xfiles (DISABLED until Sept.)
ftp.rutgers.edu in /pub/x-files (Graphic and sound files only)
(*) tartarus.uwa.edu.au in /pub/lars/x-files (Australian site)
vorlon.mankato.msus.edu in /pub/x-files/creative (a.t.x-f.creative archive)
>b) What's a Delphi and does it have an internet address?
Delphi (forgive, me AOLers and CServers) is one of the better of the
pay on-line services. It has the distinction of being the only one with
the foresight to start out on the Internet, rather than playing catchup.
As for it's internet address, yes, it has one: delphi.com. But
that knowledge will do you little good unless you actually join and pay the
fee. Actually, I don't know, can demo users make use of the X-Files SIG?

I don't think so. Unless they were lifted from the Delphi site and
uploaded somewhere else. There are tons of "homemade" gif's out there!

I think they are illegal because you are reproducing a picture without
the photographer's (or whoever's) permission. It might be ok since they
are free at the FTP sites, so no one is making any money. But I don't
think it really matters. The FBI has better things to do (I hope).

You asked the magic question. Delphi, unlike some of the self-toted
better services, has hardly any pay-extra areas. And (I bite my tongue) The
X-Files SIG is a free area. Check it out, but be warned, things are still in
their infancy. Demo users might want to wait a few months if they have no
plans to join. Or if you want to get a head of the game, join now and get
used to the system so you can be ready for when things really get rolling.
Did I mention Delphi supports 9600 baud access for free?

I work on a Mac and have several utilities to convert gifs: gif converter
and giffer. they both have problems with the gifs on the sites. I always
get a message which says that I should download them as binary when I do
an ftp. Problem is, I always use binary mode, and I still get an error. I
heard somewhere that sometimes files are also uuencoded and this could be
causing the problem.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
