tsk, tsk, tsk. Why get yourself all riled up about this? Many of the
people who are shippers show interest in the CHARACTER of Mulder and
Scully and want them to explore this type of plot twist. Am I a shipper?
Well, that depends on what day it is....You are probably just someone
who wants the attention of flames in a newsgroup, but to say that all
shippers are mildless, stupid, and the like is silly. Who's to say that
the show would turn into Melrose place if a relationship were to take
place? Today, I feel that Mulder and Scully are very good friends, but I
am almost positive UST exists (Actually I'm TOTALLY positive)...

Oh are we? So what's the show about then? Is the show ABOUT mutents and
aliens? Well, sure, but that's not all. It's about two people and their
interaction with these problems. If it wasn't for Mulder and Scully,
we'd be watching Outer Limits! Mulder and Scully are the MAIN part of
the show, without them we wouldn't care two hoots about the conspiracy
and the MOTW, we need them for human interest.
If you ask me (which you wouldn't, but tough, I'm telling you anyway)
The X-files is about a man, and his pursuit for the truth, then along
comes a female sceptic, who has been sent to debunk his work. Except,
she doesn't and she becomes involved in his quest too.
Have you ever heard Chris Carter speaking about how he came up with the
X-Files? A direct quote from the Brian Lowry book, The Truth Is Out
There, - "The show, then would focus on two FBI agents, one a believer,
one a sceptic."
See? The show IS about them. It is about their interaction, not only
with the problems they face, but also with each other. The communiation
between them is essential to the success of the show, think of all the
episodes that no-one likes (Teso Des Bichos, Space etc). What's missing
from them? Decent interaction between Mulder and Scully, without this
the show is soul-less. The majority of the really good episodes are
focussed on the relationship between the two leads, like Ice, or Memento
Mori, and you think Chris created a show that was nothing to do with
their relationship do you? Well, that's interesting, cos let's look at
Syzygy. Not everyones favourite episode, but it focussed on the
relationship between Mulder and SCully and how this was affected not
only by cosmic forces, but also the inroduction of another woman into
their dynamic. And who wrote that? Oh, looky, it's Chris Carter.
Face it buddy, Chris Carter knows what sells his show, and he plays on
it!

> Although Chris Carter has stated MANY times it would never happen,
>you continue to waste time on the subject

Personally I don't think I'm wasting any time! I indulge in X-files
banter as a fun and HARMLESS way to relax, afraid I can't say the same
about the way you spend your time.
Yes Chris Carter has said that you will never see Mulder and Scully in
bed together, making googly-eyes at each other, but the question is why
will we never see this?
Because the sexual element doesn't exist? That would be stupid to deny.
No, the main reason is because it would ruin what they already have. The
audience (including me) is hooked on the UST, and resolving that could,
in Chris Carters eyes, ruin the show, because consumated sex, is a lot
more boring than unconsumated! People tune in for the UST, (just look at
how they cashed in on this with Small potatoes), and that makes the
bosses very happy.
Having said that, don't you know that Chris carter has usually finished
that statement by saying, "but this is the X-files, and anything can
happen"? He has even come almost right out and said that some
relationship elements will occur in the X-Files movie...and as someone
else pointed out, he also said that the X-files would never deal with
time travel, and along comes Synchrony!

> and make complete asses of
>yourselves at conventions by asking incredibly obtuse questions. Why do you
>think David Duchovny
>refuses to do conventions?

Why do you assume that just because someone is a shipper, they are
automatically a weird nitpicky fan?
I think if research was done, you'd probably find that the ones that ask
stupid nitpicking questions of Chris Carter and the like, are not
shippers, but sad teenage boys with an unhealthy interest in the show!
Why would shippers be asking stupid questons? The only one I can think
of, is, will they ever get together? and I think that only newbies ask
that kind of thing. Shippers don't need to ask silly questions about why
the handwriting on mulders ID badge is different from the handwriting at
the bottom of his resignation, we're too busy watching Scully take
Mulder's hand, three thousand times!
LOL!
I don't think it's shippers that scare DD off, (and it's not X-villians
either!!), I think it's people like you who feel they own the show and
take the whole thing far too seriously.
How often to you see shippers posting messages with headers that say,
"NOROMOS SUCK!!!!!!"? We know our belief is unlikely (but getting more
likely by the day) but we can laugh at ourselves, and we respect those
who disagree with us.

> If it's relationships you want, go watch Melrose
>Place or 90210. That's more down to your intellectual level.

And what's your idea of a relationshiP? Jumping into bed with your best
friends girlfriend? Marrying someone for money and then trying to kill
them? Sleeping with every good-looking guy in sight to get up the
ladder? Having affairs with two women at once? That's the type of thing
you'll see on Melrose Place, and those are not relationships. A
relationship is about trust, and loyalty and friendship and comfort, and
being there for the person. Hmm, remind you of anything?

My intellectual level? Well, I've been told by university tutors that I
am the best they have ever at my specialist subject, can you say the
same?

>In the mean
>time, get a sex life of your own losers!

I disagree, and think you have it exactly backwards. If it weren't for the

You are really set on this aren't you? Just as you have an opinion, so do
people who watch human nature and love to see happiness. Basically that
is what "shippers" as you call them look at it.

What I want to know is how do you guys know so much about Melrose Place
and 90210? Do you guys watch it often? Is that why you don't want
to see any resemblance of a relationship between M&S? You guys REALLY
NEED A LIFE ya know. The shippers really only look at you guys and
shake their heads pittying you.

Even the most intelligent people need love!!!!!!!!!! Even if they are

*we* make asses of ourselves? It seems that intelligent, thought provoking
declarations (NOT!) such as this would make one appear to be more of an ass
than any statement about a relationship.

I know dear, you're just a troll and cannot help your actions...but maybe
you could actually pay attention to what the shippers are saying and then
*you* wouldn't be obliged to make an ass of yourself.

Is *this* the only way you can rationalize "Small Potatoes" to yourself?

Andy Andy Andy,

This is your opinion, which is fine. But don't condemn those of us with
imagination. We're not looking for "sex on the screen" (well most of us).
But, we look at human life, and you have to admit that if you worked
closely with Scully and went through all the things they have, you would
fall in love with her too. So, lighten up. We DO have SEX lives (well
most of us), we are normal people. We just have an imagination and love
a happy ending.

Actually, this underlines a basic difficulty we all seem to have in
communicating sometimes. Isn't it possible that different people like the
same show for different reasons? And that none of those various reasons
is necessarily right or wrong?

One of the beautiful things about The X-Files is that it explores all the
various shades of gray between black and white. We should learn to do the
same. Why can't we, as humans, accept that perfectly intelligent,
good-hearted, admirable people are going to disagree with us sometimes,
and that's okay?

I am probably just biting on flame bait but here goes anyway.

I am not a shipper and I agree with some of what you said but simply
dismissing the debate as a waste of time is ignorant. I think it is
interesting to read some people's views on why the should be together
and others' views on why the shouldn't. In the same manner, it is
interesting to read the way the different "camps" interprut the same
scene.

For all you pro-shippers and anti-shippers keep posting and debating.

The X-Files, like many another televison series, becomes a mirror pool
in which we see our own individual reflections. But what makes me
curious is your statement about what we share -- what are the common
elements of XF that we share? Outside of the exact nature of the M&S
