As I have recently heard many rumors regarding a romance between Mulder
and Scully in the new movie coming out on June 19 called "Fight the
Future", I have just wondered what many of your views out there on the
subject would be if such a thing should happen. Personally as a
die-hard relationshipper, I just cant wait to see something REALLY
romantic happen between our two favorite feds!! THOUGH-- I dont think
that they should do (as Mulder said best in "GenderBender") the "wild
thing" until the ABSOLUTE FINAL episode or movie or whatever. For the
simple fact that in TVland partner or other working associate office
romances never seem to end in anything except divorces or bitter
out-n-out fights and arguments. Thats not to say that a little foreplays
out of the question in my book though ;-) So, lets see what I want in
the movie this summer...let Mulder and Scully have great discussions
from each of their differing point of views and then let them *ahem*
KISS and make up!!! So what do you think, to be, or not to be????

In short, I both am completely against a non-platonic relationship and
doubt it will ever happen. Even in the last episode.

Awwwwwww Sean! I was figuring from your fave-eps list, etc. that you were
on the shipper side. I won't jump into this argument just now by saying
that X-F could never turn into "just another office-romance man-woman love
story" because 1013 obviously has way too much integrity to suddenly just
start doing relationship-focused eps, and would probably just allude to the
MSR vaguely once in a while after they got together; and I won't say that
it wouldn't "ruin the show" if they just did it very tastefully in the last
ep; nope, I won't say those things. ;) But I *will* say: boy, am I
disappointed that you're on the wrong team. ;)

I think CC will approach the issues of a more intimate relationship in the
movies, but will hold out, in deference to the character's precarious
positions in the mythology world. I do believe, however, that by the end
of the tv series involving Mulder and Scully is inevitible......to what
extent....again that remains to be seen.
The struggles that they go through and sometimes seemingly pull them apart,
does nothing but strengthen their bond.
At the heart of the matter, I believe Carter IS the ultimate
relationshipper. He is the one who has given us this incredible, dynamic
pair that can't live without each other. And in the end all that matters
are the very words from the creator himself:
"Mulder loves Scully and Scully loves Mulder"
In my book, that binds them together forever.
Just my 2 cents,

I, although I am a 'shipper, don't feel that it would be a good idea for
this to happen. There have been to many other shows on TV that have let
this scenario occur, and disaster had struck.

I'm sorry, and this isn't a flame, but why do they seem to be drifting
further and further away from each other? The two of them do have an
incredible bond, but right now there is an emotional gap that is quite
evident. One that needs to be healed, and soon.

Then why, and once again this is not a flame, does that creator seem
hell-bent on driving them apart?

- Mulder & Scully "Pusher"
You raise some excellent points. Lately it has seemed that there is some
distance. I believe that there are still some unresolved emotional issues
stemming from cancer arc (as evident in the Red & Black0 that are still
plaguing our pair, that will culminate in the season finale bomb that Scully
drops (hope you already know what it is, sorry if I spoiled it) on Mulder.
From here the movie will pick up, and I believe, will bring them closer than
ever before, emotionally speaking.
Any more thoughts?? I love discussing this wonderful, complex relationship.
Thanks again Chris Carter.

I do very much enjoy the way Dana and Mulder interact in a deeply loving
yet platonic way. Moments like the bedside scene in "Redux 2", for
example, are not only okay with me, I think they're great. I just think
it would be terrible for it to become anything sexual or anything,
because it's far too fulfilling the way it is. I'm all for a
"relationship" between them -- just an asexual, nonromantic, more
profound one.
Besides, romance is not what the show is about. Take your pick: it's
drama, it's horror, it's science-fiction, it's government paranoia, it's
sometimes emotional and sometimes comedic, sometimes mythology and
sometimes stand-alone. I just don't see any room in this for a major
storyline about romance. That would be kind of like an episode of ER all
about aliens, IMHO.
And I'll just gracefully ignore your comment about being on "the wrong
team" :)

I disagree. If you were to deepen Mulder and Scully relationship,
perhaps you can deepen the surrounding relationships without
destroying M& S integrity. I know, everyone afraid that show would
turned into them.
This is what I like to see what happens. Lets take the rumor for one,
where in the Xfile movie they show M&S get intimate . . . Then later
they remember it differently. Scully even remembers it as a dream,
then lets say hypothetically that they discussed the possibly of
relationship. Let say Scully at first thinks it might be a bad idea .
.. .
but there were times that she had . . considered the idea, maybe it
would be something she like to explore; both of them explore. They
both agree trying get know each other away from work. End of scene
Then sixth season rolls in. Do we see any relationship. No. The show
is about the Xfiles. What we do see is only a suggestion of
relationship. Let say, on the third episode, Mulder has tickets for
him Scully( a concert, a sporting event, it really doesn¹t¹ mater)
but some a case comes up and its interrupted. Very similar to
³Irresistible²
Or let¹s say M&S witness something disturbing now they¹re talking
about it over the phone and Mulder offers to come stay the night,
Scully, considering, in usual manner, would say,² No, I¹m fine,²
of course the story leads off the topic.
There relationship would be very similar with Mulder¹s change a
faith about UFO¹s in the fifth season. We touch upon it in
³Redux² and he put words in his thoughts in²PMP² and then
really hit on it on ³Patience X²
The goal is to keep M&S friendship and working relationship in fore
ground, in background, what they might do in private is left to our
imagination.
One final thing: If M&S our going to have a relationship----and I know
his opinion on it--- that it has to be written by Chris Carter. No one
else could set the tone better in furthering they¹re relationship as
he could.
Remember: suggest everything, admit nothing.
