to check out the military specification for those 9MM Sigs and see
what they were really designed to do.
I don't think they were 9's doesn't the FBI use some odd caliber??
As far as 9's not putting down the Peacocks remember back to when the
military switched over the major argument against them was they lacked
stopping power. Also consider the Peacocks feel no pain and are pumped
up on adreniline.

FBI recently approved .40 for field service. It's about
1/2 way between a 9mm and 10mm. Sig does manufacture
.40 guns. The reason for the development of 10mm was to
increase firepower after the `Miami Shootout' incident which
left 2 agents dead. The problems with 10mm is that it is
a very large gun. Someone with the palm size of Scully would
have problem handle it. The .40 was developed as a compromise
between firepower and size.
I sincerly don't know what would happen if Scully uses a .40
gun on the Peacock brothers.

Actually, .40 S&W is a 10mm bullet but with less powder and a shorter
case than a true 10mm. It was developed by the FBI in with a goal
of finding a caliber that "stops like a .45 with the capacity of
a nine." For more information about this caliber, check out the
Unofficial 40 Smith & Wesson Home Page at:

Yes, not to mention that early 10mm guns couldn't handle full 10mm
loads which ended up resulting in cracked and bent frames. I believe
Mulder still carries a SIG P229 (possibly .40 caliber) while Scully
started out carrying a SIG P230 (.380 much like James Bond's Walther
PPK) and now carries some variant of a Smith and Wesson. I didn't
see Home (still waiting on my cable guy) so I don't know about that
episode.
