Did anyone else think there was a lot of mumbling in this show? I
couldn't understand what Scully said about Barney. Anyone know?

God, yes! I kept turning up the sound, to no avail. Did DD just have
teeth pulled or something? Sheesh!

Well, either I was just expecting a ho-hum, lackluster, post mythology
episode (IE: DPO, Firewalker, Fearful Symmetry) or DETOUR really WAS
spectacular!

After watching it three times already, I have concluded... DETOUR ROCKED
MY SHIPPY WORLD!!!!!!!

"Thank you Jesus!"
"Joy to the world!"

So far, season five was worth the 6 months of X/F withdrawl torture...

PERFECTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scully said something to the effect that she couldn't handle being married
to Barney... But the kids were cute.

She said, "But I wouldn't have married Barney."

Now, I can't remember the Flintstones that vividly tonight, but why did
Scully say, "I identified with Betty's bustline."??? Was Betty a
carpenter's dream? More importantly, which of you identified with Betty's
bustline when you were a child?

Me? Oh, I identified with Dino, and then Gazoo.

Whoa! I missed that! That actually was a pretty telling statement hidden in a
seemingly frivilous conversation. Scully is feeling a bit wistfull about
being supposedly (How do we really know for sure?) sterile.

I had it turned up so loud, the commercials scared me more than the
MOTW. I like the subtle jokes, but it would be nice to hear them.

=o= Wilma and Betty were essentially the same body with
different heads. Same personalities, too. I thought
Mulder's question was puzzling, as was Scully's answer.

=o= Perhaps it's a redhead thing: young Scully promised
herself her that hair would *never* look like Wilma's?

Now, this is strange! Usually I have a terrible time with the
audio, but the last episode was the best yet. The surround sound
effects made for a horrifying experience. For the first time I
caught every word. I have seriously been considering purchasing
a closed-caption adaptor for the "X-Files" and other shows that
use a wide dynamic range because music, sound effects, and dialog
are all put together and then sent out in Dolby Surround.

I didn't have a chance to watch the regular satellite feeds, which
I usually do because having commercials to break up the show can
be helpful--especially with such high energy portions that were
in last night's episode. Perhaps because I watched the 4:30 A.M.
(California time) T5-10 "International" commercial-free feed, the
finicky Dolby calibration was more in line with my Yamaha receiver/
processor. Over the years, there has been no change to my audio
or video system, so someone somewhere is messing around with the
"domestic" signal or not doing something right. Next week I'll
watch it on one of the FOX affiliates that I subscribe to via
satellite. I'll bet it sounds just like it did before I found
that "International" 4:30 A.M. feed, which isn't really fair to
the huge domestic U.S. market.

Like all of you, the audio drove me nuts; but something has
happened with one feed and remained unchanged in the other
two.

His mumbling is SO annoying. So flame me, again. I can't help but feel
he's so disinterested in mere TV that he can't force enough wind past
his vocal cords. That's probably not true; i still like the guy, but
speak up, will you, Fox?

Er, does *Scully* know she's sterile? AFAIK, Mulder still hasn't told her
about her eggs.

There were a couple parts where I couldn't understand Scully either. What was
up with that? You know they do looping for a reason so there is no excuse for
us to not be able to hear them. BTW, Scully *did* say she could never marry
Barney, but the kids were cute.

For that matter, do we know Scully is sterile? Perhaps they did not
harvest all of her ova?

Try leaving the subtitles up. It is kind of annoying when it covers the
action, but you can "hear" everything...

Ugh! It's the same ole question of do they talk about "stuff"
when we aren't there to hear them. Same ole answer.
We will only know if this "kids" conversation turns up again,
say in "Christmas Carol/Emily" (here's hoping).

But golly-gee, its taken them 5 years to get to the point of some
serious flirting...how the hell long is it gonna take before we get this
conversation:
"Uh, Mulder? The doctor called. My ova are all present and
accounted for, so...he wants to, uh, test you now."
"Cool! Does he have videos or should I bring my own? Yeah,
better safe than sorry. Hey, grab those Penthouses there by the
couch, will ya?"

Close, oh so close :-) Here's what they said:

Mulder: "Hey, who did you identify with when you were a kid? Wilma or Betty?"
Scully: "I identified with Betty's bust-line."
Mulder: "Yes! I did too."
Scully: "Never would have been married to Barney though. The kids were cute."
Mulder: "Yeah, but where are they now."

Hope this helps!
