To whoever mentioned the similarities between the 2-23 ep. (Pusher)
and Stephen King's book Firestarter, I agree. To take nothing away
from a fine episode (I enjoyed it much better than the rather lousy
Firestarter movie), the use of the word "push" in reference to mind
control really put the comparison over the edge into ripoff land.

I'm not complaining... in fact, I'd like to see the X-files twist on
"The Dead Zone," "IT," "Christine," etc. I wouldn't mind seeing
GA play the lead in "Gerald's Game," for that matter };>

Not to mention Star Wars' use of The Force. I was expecting Yoda to
pop up any minute at the end and save Mulder. Jedi Knight you say!!

I see some of the similarities, but I wouldn't call it a ripoff.
I think a lot of the 'background' material was good, like Mulder
doing the profile (which was his area of expertise) and his
improved aim at the shooting range. The scene in the grocery store
was cool, and watching Mulder lose once was good, too. (By losing,
I think that Modell got him to pull the trigger is losing) It
also was nice to see Scully save the day.

If you **really** want similaries, go back to "Beneath The Planet of
The Apes.** wherein an entire race of post-apocalypic humans had the
power of mind control, and in the words (badly remembered) of one:
we don't kill our enemies. They kill themselves.

I'm afraid I bailed out on the Planet of the Ape movies after number
two... but really, don't you think an entire race of hidden humans
with mind control is "Second Foundation" by Asimov? So there we
have it... Pusher was a ripoff of Asimov's foundation series... :)
