My take on this scene has always been that there is just as much
evidence here that Scully slept with Ed as that Mulder slept with
Kristin in "3"...which is to say, no evidence at all...or all the
evidence you need....

There was definitely a serious kiss!! I only know this because I was looking
at the season four show summaries (In the X-Files Review Archive on AOL)
It went something like this:
Scully wanted to see his tattoo, the tattoo told him NO WAY, he grabbed her
hand to stop her from touching it, THAT'S when they kissed and it started
getting hot and heavy!!
Anyway, that's beside the point. I'm hoping that Scully did sleep with him!!
ONLY because if she didn't, then that would mean Scully hasn't had sex for at
least 4-5 years, and I'm feelin' pretty bad for her!!

Well, I say that if you are gonna be limited, it's better to be 0-fer-4-plus-years

I sort of hope she did; she deserves a bit of fun, even if it is kinky. Ditto
Mulder; I was annoyed with fans who hated Bambi Barenbaum just because she
MIGHT have made it with him even though she obviously didn't. Same with Marita
Covarrubias, leaving aside the matter of which side she's on for real--the way
she came on to him at first ("Not everthing dies, Mr. Mulder," and "Because I
can. Because there are those of us who believe in you") seemed calculated to
melt his heart, whether her sympathies were sincere or feigned. For a man whose
sex life except in "3" has been limited to porno mags and adult videos, eveb a
fling would actually be a sign of emotional growth. And (I can hear the
shippers groaning!), it would NOT preclude Mulder and Scully eventually getting
together.
But enough of that. What about the Worm Ouroboros tattoo? At the time it seemed
just a coincidence, but now Carter has annexed the MILLENNIUM universe to that
of THE X-FILES. I suspect that Jose Chung won't be the last crossover! Perhaps
this was all gone over way last spring, or else when news of the series link
first broke, but I wasn't on the net then!

=o= It was left ambiguous. The folks at home rooting for Scully
to get it on with brood!boy could interpret it that way. The
folks at home praying for sainthood could interpret it the other

Uhm, they didn't kiss. See Autumn's previous post. Every bit of evidence
that suggests they did the dirty deed is counterbalanced by even more
evidence that suggests they did not. CC made *serious* cuts to Morgan and
Wong's original script and he allows each of us to decide for ourselves.
Shaky circumstantial evidence doesn't make much of a case in my opinion,
especially when evidence exists to the contrary. If it did, you could make
a compelling argument about the hotel room scene in Jose Chung.

Unless of course your tatoo starts talking....But seriously, I think all the
evidence is that she didn't sleep with him. What Mulder thinks is what makes
it interesting. I think he thinks she did or wonders and Scully deliberately
keeps him guessing in order to put some needed (in her emotional state at the
time) distance between them.

In NA - I favor the

I was with you up until the virgin part. It is much more likely that he would
stay in bed with her if they had had sex. And no you can't compare that to
Mulder in "3" because they knew that they would have to be leaving quickly and
it just wouldn't do to have Mulder running around in his boxers (although it
would do something for me). Now this is not to say that either of them actually
had sex. I bet that Mulder did based on his loneliness, despair and the tongue
filled kiss in the bathroom. I bet Scully didn't because we didn't see a kiss
(we wuz robbed) and she was sleeping in the bed while he was on the couch (and
they were in no rush to go anywhere due to fires or vampires). As I recall the
look he gave her when he brought breakfast seemed appologetic.....but it has
been awhile so I could be wrong. THAT'S IT!! They tried to have sex but he
couldn't get it up because his tattoo was yelling at him the whole time. That
would suck.....that would worse than not ever trying to have sex. ;-)

Hmmmmm. [Pictures Mulder wearing nothing but his black silk boxers

*did* have to be in a hurry to leave. An approaching *firestorm* can be
a great motivator when it comes to getting out of bed, dressed, and ready
to leave ASAP.

That and the often overlooked fact that "the Son" *told* Kristen that he
had watched them through the window, and had had to wait until they were
finished (before approaching her with the demand that she kill Mulder).
Plus, while Scully & Jerse remained vertical all the way up until the door
closed on the-kiss-we-never-saw, Mulder & Kristen were rapidly nearing the
horizontal by the scene's end, in the standard storytelling shorthand of
a sinking-to-the-floor-in-the-throes-of-passion shot. IIRC, you actually
see them and/or their shadows falling past the Son's face in the window
as they descend, tongue-locked all the way.
Another little thing: Mulder said earlier that he doesn't sleep
anymore (since Scully was taken, presumably). Obviously this can't be
taken literally, but we can at least infer that sleep does not come easily
to him now. And we never do see him succumbing to sleep during this
episode -- until after *that* scene. Would just kissing Kristen and then
getting dressed exhaust Mulder enough to get him to sleep? IMHO, not if
nothing else in this episode so far has. On the other hand, finding an
emotional and physical release for his anguish and despair *could* provide
just enough temporary emotional solace (and physical exhaustion) for him
to finally allow his mind and body to rest, if only briefly.

In NA, didn't the tattoo threaten bad things if Ed was to kiss Dana? I
thought I remembered something like that. The synopsis of the ep on the
official site corroborates this and indicates that nothing happened that
night. But maybe I'm misremembering and the official site is just feeding
my delusion.

I'm with you here, Thomas. Except for the "couch" part. She
slept in the bed. *He* slept on the couch. I don't care either
way so I don't have any agenda I want to prove. She woke up
the next morning, wearing his shirt and her own black pants.
I am sadly lacking one-night-stand experience, but I don't think
she had wild sex and then got dressed in a shirt and pants
afterward just to sleep alone.
And as for Scully being a virgin, if that was a serious comment
and not an adolescent troll, it's absurd. She had an on-going

Hard as it may be for some of us to believe, the "wait until marriage"
camp is not a very large one--especially among Catholics. Writing about
modern American Catholics, Fr. Andrew Greeley (a Jesuit priest, I
believe, and a well-respected sociologist of religion at the University
of Chicago) has oftened commented on the fact that most Catholics find
the position of the Church on sex (no pun intended) ridiculous. I
believe he quotes a figure like 85% of American Catholics regularly
disregard the "teachings" of the Church on pre-marital sex. So I don't
think Scully's Catholicism is evidence of her virginity.
From Scully's various reactions to romantic situations or tensions, I've
never gotten the impression that she was naive in that department.
Perhaps they just don't parde her sex life on the air. I mean . . . we
do only see them an hour a week. Maybe Scully's making wild monkey,
jungle love the other 167 hours. Who knows?

I'm not sure if I think Scully is a virgin or not, but in a Feb, 1997
Rolling Stone interview, GA responded to a question about Dana's sex
life by saying, "I don't think that Dana has ever scored in the
history of Dana." (Incidentally, DD said in the same interview that
"Mulder has had sex once since the show started, and that was with a
vampire.")
So, that is the actors' take, anyway.
