Hi Everyone,

I want to see what people's opinions of Chris Carter was, do you think he is a
God like Genius or do you think he's a pathetic hack? When responding to the
question, please state why you think he's either or, if you think he's both,
state so.

I personally think Chris Carter is a God like genius, I think Laura Cap can
explain why I think so! I share the same love for the man!

thank you,
ryan

I think he is talented and surrounds himself with talented people, with whom
he has been able to develop and sustain for 9 seasons a unique and
successful show.

That is a smart man who does that. A president of the US picks a
cabinet who makes him look good and gets results and a CEO picks
managers who make him/her look good. Which (and you are all
going to hate this ;-D) is why I don't buy Skinner's "Without"
talk to Doggett that Kersh set him up to fail. It would be very
much in Kersh's interest to have Doggett succeed. Doggett was
Kersh's hand picked guy to lead the search for Mulder. As an
executive in a new very high level job, the last thing he would
want is to have his hand picked guy fail because it would be a
reflection on him. So, to bring it back around, it's in CC's
best interests to surround himself with talented people and to
have them succeed. Their success is a reflection on his good
judgment, a quality that shound not be overlooked or underrated.

He gets high marks from me for his ideas, focus, his penchant to
tease and especially his writing for those BIG stories. I think
the idea of mixing mytharc eps with standalones contributed
greatly to the longevity of the show and he will long be
remebered for making a TV series with movie qualities. He also
works his ass off, as Robert Patrick has said, which I admire,
and he conducts himself well in public.

His bad points - he'a a shipper in sheeps clothing and that
Gilligan's Island thing...Jeeeez. ;-D

Chris Carter is not "godlike". Based on The X-Files and what little I've
seen of his other work, I insist that he is, however, a most unique genius.

I have read that a genius is simply someone who learns from the mistakes of
others. Mr. Carter not only did this, but improved upon his mutant
creation. He used the X-Files to explore what had traditionally been
"underground" themes and took what was "cult" (even occult) and brought it
deep into the heart of a shallow mainstream culture. He used the familiar
and normal in the form of taboo police shows and documentary-dramas and
hybridized that with the most bizarre and unlikely. He drew up and, with
the help of two very talented actors, fleshed out two of the most round and
lumpy characters I have had the pleasure of reading/watching and enjoying.

On a very personal note, he helped me to see through many of the lies I
lived with in my own life by helping me to think outside "normality" and to
ponder "extreme possibilities."

He made me laugh.

Regardless of whether or not he was simply in the right place at the right
time with the right ideas, it takes genius to keep it going for so long and
with such success.

Hack? My friend, most of what is written is severe hackery. But even that
takes its own special genius to conceive, gestate and then explode from the
collective chest of humanity.

Thanks Chris Carter for The X-Files.

Well the explanation Skinner gave was that Kersh saw Doggett as a rival - remember
Skinner said Doggett was on the fast track to the directorship. If Kersh had his
eyes on that prize, it would make perfect sense for him to want to undercut a
rival.
