Does anyone know where I can obtain a copy of an X-Files script? It doesn't
matter to me what format it's in (.doc, .txt, .pdf, etc.). I would just like
to see how they're structured, to get a feel for one.

Thanks!

There's a good selection of scripts at Tiny Dancer's page. They're in
zipped .doc format. The URL is
http://www.nelsonbay.com/insanity/tiny/xfindex.html. You just then
need to scroll down the menu to "episode transcripts". Hope that
helps.

Real scripts are not available in these formats. Some official versions of the
X-Files scripts are available via Sci-Fi stores. I think Starland carries them
online.

Those are not scripts, they are transcripts. There is a huge difference between
the two - esp. if you are looking to see structure like this person asked.

Except that a TRANSCRIPT isn't the same as a SCRIPT.

"The X-Files" actually publishes their scripts, in proper script format, and
offers them for sale. I know they're available through the Ultimate TV Store
(www.ultimatetv.com) and possibly through an outfit in L.A. called Moletown
(www.mole.com/moletown/main.html), which sells licensed movie and TV show
products -- tee shirts, coffee mugs, etc. You can also order "X-Files" scripts
through The Script Shop (www.scriptshop.com).

And if you're doing anything other than reading it for fun (like, say,
analyzing it to possibly write something yourself), I always advise getting a
hard-copy paper script rather than downloading something off the internet.
Unless it's in .pdf format, how a downloaded script prints out depends entirely
on your software -- which means it won't necessarily look like it should look.

Steve,

If you can't find anything useable online, you might want to buy a copy of a
script. For a time, Fox was selling copies of the early episode scripts (Deep
Throat, Darkness Falls, Irresistible, etc.). I got my copies from Suncoast
Video here on the East Coast. Places like 1-800-TREKKER were selling them and
might still be doing so. They're simply photocopies of the scripts and yes,
they're in correct format.

I paid about $10 per script (Suncoast was having a sale).

Hope this helps,
Pete
