News
Stefan Petrucha has written one last X-Files tale, Afterflight, illustrated
by Jill Thompson, about the 1896 airship mystery, the first UFO flap in the
US. The fate of this 65 page story is up in the air. Topps will probably
publish it as a graphic novel later this year.
Chris Carter has committed to working with Dark Horse Comics on a series of
graphic story albums, prose novellas illustrated with full-page artwork. The
first Dark Horse X-Files graphic story album is scheduled for release in
early 1997 (CBG #1168).
The The X-Files/TV Guide mini-comic was seen by as many as 38 million
readers. TV Guide has a circulation of about 13 million. TV Guide and
Twentieth Century Fox Television are both part of Rupert Murdoch's media
empire. This was, perhaps, the widest exposure ever given to a comic (Wizard
#50).
First and second printings of Topps comics are so labeled in the indicia
(the fine print at the bottom edge of the inside front cover).
Why did Topps put the UPC barcode on the cover of Direct Market editions?
Cost-cutting move or conspiracy? According to a post by Ash (ex...@io.org):
"to catalogue and track the position of each and every X-Phile that
purchases a copy of the series."

X-Files comics are published around the world: Trielle Corporation,
Australia and New Zealand; Tokuma Shoten Publishing, Japan; General Press,
Italy; Manga Publishing, United Kingdom and Ireland; also Denmark, Finland,
Germany, Norway, Spain, Sweden; and soon in Greece and France.

The Direct Market edition of X-Files #1 sold out in less than a week
(X-Files #2).
Subscriptions from Topps are not available (X-Files #3).
Write to Grey Matters, the letter column of The X-Files at The X-Files, c/o
Topps Comics, One Whitehall Street, New York, NY 10004-2109.
All X-Files comic scripts are approved by the Fox Licensing office and by
Chris Carter and his creative team. There is a lengthy time lag between
script submission and approval (Wizard #44).
