newsgroup please help.....Mulder's first name, "Fox" is unusual,
especially for someone whose family is from Martha's Vineyard. If I
remember correctly, in one episode, on an Indian reservation, one of the
elders comments on Mulders "Indian " name.
Does anyone know if there is any reference to his parents choosing this
name? I'm looking for an explanation because two otherwise sane people are
sure he is named after the network. (refuse to believe it).
-thanks much,
Linda
P.S.-saw post here re: "relationship episode guide" (correct name I hope),
this was truly wonderfully entertaining, copied, but in info transfer I
lost it. :-( if anyone has copy, please, please send or post this
thread....Thanks again.

He's not named after the network...Chris Carter had a boyhood friend named
or nicknamed "Fox" and he named Mulder after him. Can't find where I saw this
(checked Pat Gonzales' FAQ (not there)...perhaps in Cliff Chen's stuff
somewhere).

As stated over and over again in various interviews, articles, and books --
FOX MULDER came from CC's mother's maiden name and the name of childhood
friend.

In the the book ( The Truth Is Out There The official guide to the
X-files) Chris Carter said that he got the name Fox Mulder from a
childhood friend and is his mother's maiden name.... It's a combo of of
the two!!! Which of 2 he did not say!!!

Nope...to rehash this for the *millionth* time (but, that's ok...I don't
mind, and hope no one else does, either):
"Mulder" is CC's mom's maiden name..."Fox" was a childhood friend of his
(CC). "Scully was in honor of announcer Vincent Scully. "Dana" is still a
mystery to me.....

I read it was chosen by Chris Columbus because he grew up with a boy
whose name was Fox, and he liked it so much he wanted to use it for a
character's name.

Because Carter had gone to the Twentieth Century execs, and said "I've got
this great idea for a series: It features two FBI agents investigating the
supernatural. Their names are Dana Scully and UPN Mulder. Whaddya think?"
"Hmm. Just one suggestion, Chris."

DD said in an interview a week or 2 ago, before the Fox
network picked them up, his character's name was
"N.B.C. Mulder."

Could it be just that CC likes the name?

Once again -- 'Mulder' was Carter's mother's maiden name and 'Fox' was the
name of a childhood friend.

Chris Carter has stated that
1.) Mulder was his mother's maiden name
2.) Fox was the name of a childhood friend and he always considered it
to be a cool
name
3.) Scully is named after Vin Scully
4.) Dana was simply a nice, softer-sounding counterpart to the name
Scully. :-)

Mulder was CC's mother's maiden name.I don't know why Mulder was named
Fox but don't you think the name suits him. Fox's are cunning
,intelligent ect.

And, of course, it's an indin(ish) name so all those clever and myseterous
(stereotypical) 'native americans' like him.

(Can't remember the episode, but it was late in Season 1).
