This is NOT true. My SOURCES have ASSURED me that
the role has GONE TO the Olsen TWINS ,who will stand on each others
SHOULDERS inside a costume that looks REMARKABLY LIKE jodie Foster.
Gillian LOST the role because IT REQUIRED her to RECREATE the fbi
OBSTACLE course scene from the FIRST MOVIE and she couldn't get HER
LITTLE FEET over the rope ladder HIGHBAR.
She also repeatedly PUKED when the idea OF EATING BRAINS was brought
up.

Those girls are such excellent actors that they'll probably outshine
that colorless Jodie Foster. No one will even remember Silence of the
Lambs. Plus, I can imagine that Ashley and Anthony Hopkins will have
splendid chemistry.

That Gillian is such a hack. Imagine puking when thinking about
eating brains. She did it in that Silence of the Sharks episode.
didn't she?

This is something I am willing to go on the record as saying is complete
bullshit. Today 12/30/99, I am saying this is crap and I believe it to be a
total fabrication.
There is no way Gillian accepted the role of Clarice Starling. I doubt it was
offered to her. I am not a Hollywood Insider and even I know better than this.
If I'm wrong, I will apologize and offer $100 to the charity of Stingley's
designation but I believe, right now, that this is complete BS, this guy is
full of shit, and that "Hannibal" will not star Gillian Anderson.

I heard Mr. Showbiz is saying it because *we've* been saying it. :P
I've joked about the plot points in the book; but I agree with
those who say it would *not* be a good move for GA to take
the role under any circumstances. If the movie fails to do as
well as "Silence of the Lambs", there will be a high tendency
to blame her. They'll say she's not as good as Jodie. They'll say
she played the role too much like Scully. Even if the movie
does well; there will still be many unfair comparisons to JF.
She'll always be considered the "second pick" for the role.

Personally, I feel that if it was such a good role Jodi wouldn't have passed on it.
If she really wanted to do it, and she had scheduling conflicts then something
could have been worked out.
Now we know that there have been problems with th sequel story - primarily because
Jodi didn't like what the writers were doing to the character of Clarice...
Granted I haven't seen the story, the script, or heard anything other than what has
filtered through the Hollywood grapevine- and we all know what a quagmire that can
be.
But I can't help but think that if Jodi turned it down.. there has to be a
reason... and if the role is simply not that good - I can't see GA taking it.
As well, I agree with Teddi - if the movie tanks, GA will be blamed, and looked
upon as a second pick...
Though I profess I'd *like* to see how the chemistry works between GA and Anthony
Hopkins...
Then again, I can't see GA making a huge mistake- she's been pretty careful to mix
up the kind of roles she has been playing.. pretty offbeat stuff-- far away from
her Scully character... I guess that ultimately I'll trust GA's instincts.
BTW according to the all the tests I've done on it, my computer will fail Y2K - so
by the time I'm back on the NG - these points could be moot, and GA could be
walking down the aisle at the Oscars clutching an Academy Award for Hannibal..
Just show's what I know!

Yeah, ain't it a bugger when a computer won't connect to
the net just because it thinks it is the year 1900 and it knows
that the net hasn't been invented yet. Why one of our computers
at work yesterday had it's clock advanced by a day. When it
relized that the date now corresponded to a year in which it could
not have existed it just collapsed in on itself and became one of
them there singularity thingies. Almost had my X-Files 2000
calendar sucked into it before I could flush it down the john.

There is a script. Anthony Hopkins has already read it and signed on to
reprise his role. Jodie HAS turned it down. She is going to direct a movie
called "Flora Plum". Guess you missed the big news, which has been posted
all over the showbiz sites on the www as well as in "Variety". It's also
been announced on Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight & E! News Daily.

That's what I'd heard. So I can't see it as a terrific part for GA if Jodi passed on
it... she's pretty saavy about these things...we'll see though...

SPOILERS
Although I have not read the book yet, I have heard that the character Clarice
becomes more of a profiler, and like the previous agent who was responsible
for Hanibal's orignal capture (Book Red Dragon, Movie Manhunter). She becomes
a canibal herself. So as long as the movie script stays true to the book,
which I hope it does, then we probably won't see Ms. Foster as Clarice.
