I went to the X-Files Shrine where they post pictures from future episodes,
and I must say, the Mulder pictures from Signs and Wonders make me look
forward to seeing this ep.

No, It is a lot shorter and a whole lot uglier. I didn't think they could top
season six bad hair but they have. Her hair is so short and.... punky. I don't
know what else to call it. It's not a "smart" style like we're used to with
Scully. I wonder if Gillian looked in the mirror and screamed after it was cut.

I have plenty of female friends who have gone to the hairdresser to go "a
little shorter" but came out crying. Do you think this was the case with
Gillian?

Gary - who finds it slightly more difficult to be a shipper when Mulder or
Scully are suffering from bad hair.

Gosh, just the sort of stalwart the shipper side has always needed.
:-P

For that, no shuffleboard for a week. The Scully team will have to use the
alternate player in the playoffs. Not that the Scully team had any chance
of defeating the Mulder team...

It was one of those coupon deals from Hair Cuttery.... Take it from
me, you MIGHT be able to get a decent haircut for eight bucks, but
don't scrimp on a circumcision ! A request for "just a little off the
top and leave the sides alone" can have vastly different meanings,
depending on which head is receiving the trim.

I was wondering about those snakes in the pic of them
crawling on Mulder. Are we supposed to think those are
poisonous snakes? Those are pythons. These are constrictors,
not poisonous snakes, but Mulder seems to be suffering from
snakebite. I can certainly understand why they wouldn't want
to use a normally venomous snake -- even if it's venom sack
had been removed (not sure if those can grow back), but
there are nonvenomous snakes such as a king snake that
resemble venomous snakes.

They seem to use constrictors a lot in TV and movies to
play venomous snakes. I guess constrictors are just
great actors.<G>  Seriously though, I think
constrictors tend to *look* scary to a lot of people,
so that's why they use them.

Heh. And a real rattlesnake (even with venom sac removed)
would be too scary for the actors. I sure wouldn't trust
that the snake wasn't really poisonous anymore.

Of course, the fact that some of these constrictors get
pretty big (and if the constrictor has a role as a
rattlesnake) makes it scarier. These aren't particularly
large snakes in the picture (compared to how big a python
CAN get).

Is it just me, or does he look extremely young in the picture where he's
lost consciousness and Scully is hovering over him? I mean, Jeez, the guy
is pushing 40, and he looks like he did at the beginning of the series, at
least in that picture. Oh, and as long as we're on the subject of that
picture, is that red thing at the edge of the picture the tape they use to
set the actors marks?

Went to the spoiler board to get a look at the pictures for "Signs and

the snake sure LOOKS like a venomous one (triangle shape to the head). I
read that they used 2 poisonous snakes and 4 non poisonous ones for the takes
and the poinsonous ones HAD THEIR MOUTHS TAPED TO PROTECT DD!? 1st I want to
know who taped them shut and 2nd...I would have to trust this person without
fail to be ANYWHERE NEAR A POISONOUS SNAKE much less let one crawl over me!!!
I can't quite get a handle on whether or DD has great faith in the people
around him (and in his Creator to protect him for him AND his family...of
course I don't even know if he HAS religious convictions!)...is very
courageous...or ....!

They are all pythons in the picture (two different kinds,

snakes with their heads taped, then when they are crawling
on David, they used pythons. Venomous snakes have a very
pronounced triangle shape, and the part of the head next to
its body is much wider than the body. I did some research
last night, looking at pics of both venomous and
non-venomous snakes.

I'm with you, if they used poisonous snakes with their
mouths taped, I would want to be VERY VERY sure the tape was
secure.

As for the person who commented how young David still looks,
you are right. The man still looks fantastic. Takes very
good care of himself.

someone been on the set during the filming said they used 2 rattlers with

Over on the Haven's spoiler board "Iona" had this to say about the snakes
in 'Signs and Wonders':

Question: I am curious about S&W's w/Scully and the snakes. Why in
the world does she have her hand in a box of rattlers?

Answer: Haven't seen the scene in question. But, have seen another
scene with her, Mulder, a reverend and 3 rattlers! Ewwwwwww! I
cringed through ALL of it! RANKY-TANK!! They were freakin',
stinkin' REAL!!!! I'm not so fond of snakes, can we tell??

Question: Did you see the snake scene without cuts? I was wondering
what GA and DD's reactions were to the snakes when the cameras
weren't rolling. Thanks!

Answer: I saw before and after all takes. DD doesn't like 'em. But,
heck, I wouldn't either!!!! I think they really bugged him, but he
stayed very calm. GA was a trooper. She asked questions about them
and seemed curious. DD would look at her sometimes like, "She's
nuts. She doesn't seemed too bothered."

Also ...

Posted by iona on Dec-15-99 11:38pm
(In reply to: Q: Any good bloopers from this ep? posted by T on
Dec-15-99 11:25pm)

GA and DD interact with those SNAKES! One time, the actor playing the
Rev. bends down to pick up the snake in front of GA. Remember, he has
dialogue WHILE bagging a rattler. GA is standing as straight as can
be, the actor picks up the snake, puts him in the bag with two
others...but the snake doesn't quite wanna go in. Somehow he gets that
head out and starts stretching out...you can see GA's eyes get as big
as saucers as she leans back without moving her feet, while the actor
is trying to wrangle the snake AND finish his lines. He does. "Cut!"
GA says, "How do they do that?"

</snip>

Seems like we'll get to see a variety of snakes. Looking at that picture,
it looks as if the Mulder torturers will have a lot of fun with the
episode.

Thanks for the report, Konrad. I hadn't read the latest
update. So it does appear there will be both venomous and
non-venomous snakes. The latter wouldn't bother me as long
as they weren't really large (and its handler was nearby),
but I wouldn't want to be around the former.

It would seem to me that even if a snake is no longer poisonous, he might still
have the instinct to bite whatever catches his fancy. That being the case, I
don't think I would want even formerly-poisonous snakes around me. :)

Good point! The snake would still have fangs, even if he
couldn't inject poison anymore. But seeing as how those type
of snakes rely on their venom to take out their prey, snake
owners probably don't remove the venom sacs (just guessing,
since I have only read a little bit about people who own
poisonous snakes *shudder*).
