Had to watch this wonderful ep twice before I posted but here's my 2
cents:

1. CC absolutely writes Scully best. Scully and her Lady in Red
counterpart were everything tonight I have ever dreamed for her
character. She was BALLSY (sorry, couln't think of another word to
describe it) and she was just stormin' all over the place in both parts
not to mention the best punch I have ever seen on The XF.

2. "Don't even think about trying to weasel me" and "You little weasel"
(Scully/Lady In Red to Spender) Uh....I guess we know who reads the
newsgroup. So, Weasel Boy it is. ;-D

3. Speaking of Weasel Boy, he was terrific in this. He actually
outshone CSM/WBD as a Nazi. BTW, Spender keeps the office a lot neater
than Mulder. ;-D

4. "Hey Scully, I love you" followed by her reply, "Oh Brother." I
laughed so hard I thought I would wet my pants. I love you CC. ;-D

5. I'm sorry if I can't stop talking about Scully/Lady In Red but
whatta pow in the kisser. AND, such a long and hard kiss... By the way,
what did Mulder mumble after she slugged him? I replayed it 3 times and
couldn't make out what he said.

6. Best two camera scenes, or whatever the technical term is, was when
Scully was charging through the FBI and when they showed the split
screen and Scully crossed over into one screen and Mulder/Lady In Red
crossed over into the other. Cool.

7. I can see why Krycek was not in this ep. The good guys/bad guys
were clearly defined. The only part he could have played was the Nazi
pretending to be a member of the crew. That had Krycek written all over
it.

8. "Trust no one, man."

9. "Agent Fowley, I was looking for Agent Spender." (phone call)
Ooooooooh, Diana must die. ;-D.

10. The English will like this one. Don't you think?

11. Who said, "God bless America, now get your asses out of here." Was
that Skinner the Nazi in the ship's hall? I could not make out who that
person was even when I replayed and paused the tape.

12. "I've never seen you like that (us either, Scully ;-D) but you
believed me." Mulder, all I can say is you should have seen her
plowing through the FBI.

13. Mulder goo-goo face at the end...DD is so good at that face stuff.
It speaks volumes.

14. Gotta kick out of the Johnny Mathis commercial for the Gap which
was probably just coincidence but appealed to my FEMALE 18-49 year old
demographic.

15. Skinner doesn't seem do dirty anymore but I wouldn't have kissed
him on the lips. But, I'd say it was worth a hug and a kiss on the
cheek. ;-D

Very small nitpick which did not spoil the ep: The Lone Gunmen could
not have gotten to Scully's desk unescorted with a visitor's badge.
You can't even do that in my DC government agency. They also could not
have parked in the underground garage. (Was expecting Scully to have a
cubicle. You?)

It's going to be really really really hard for the 1013 crew to top this
one this season.

5. "I expected a left"
I had to get closed captioning to pull out some of the dialogue. It is
often different from the spoken words too, so you get two stories for the
price of 1

she most definitely kicked butt in trying to get ahold of any
information...

although GA did stage before going to television, I loved the little
gaffes here and there - her stumbling in the heels and her body language
when she realised she had given the information to the wrong people -
words aren't necessary when you're that darned talented!!!

alright...

I just wanted to add that when '39 Scully punched Mulder (after a 9 second
kiss, wow!) he said, "Oh, I
was expecting a left" as he rubbed his cheek. Also, that was Skinner that
saved Mulder and '39 Scully on
their way outside. "God Bless America..." I saw his face and recognized
his voice. Just hard to recognize
him with that hat! BTW, use the closed captioning, it helps a lot!

I thought the filming of this episode was totally superb! The episode just FLEW
by didn't it?? I've never seen an hour go by so fast!! And it was unexpected
for me to have it in widescreen. That made it even better.

I also thought it very cool that every scene was shot without cuts. Just
one long continuous take until the comercial (until you got to the split
screen stuff, which I guess counts as a cut).

Yup - great Scully. Gutsy is the word I'd use.

Much better accent on the weasely one

My emotion wasn't laughter - I was choking up. But that's me....

Skinner - doing great accents!!!! First in German - then, in this one,
as a German accented British accent.

According to my rewatchings and closed captioning, he said "I would've
never seen you again, but you *believed* me." My heart stopped.

or older ladies, even....Speaking of which - not that I'm one to make
generalizations - but I've been watching the ebb and flow of reaction on
the ng tonight, and I'm seeing a very gender-specific differential here.
Most of the antis are men - but the women (most), romo and non, really
liked it. Perhaps they missed the correct demographic, eh?

Thank goodness someone here heard it correctly. I must have played Fox's "I

Oh no, I laughed out loud because of the response Scully made. Here's
Mulder seriously expressing his affection and she's treating it like
he's touched in the head. It's the bee scene in the hall all over
again for taking you to the edge but not letting you fall over the
cliff. If she went all gooey at that hospital moment, I wouldn't have
enjoyed it as much. I'm laughing because CC is kind of giving everybody
what they want without actually giving in. CC is the Master Twinkler
and I just get such a big kick out of that kind of writer teasing, that
I laughed because I was so tickled by the artfulness of the whole tease
execution.

Maybe it's all that OBSSE influence, but I'm really starting to love
this woman. Don'tFuckWithMe!Scully was one of the best parts of the ep.

I was thouroughly impressed with Chris Owens tonight - particularly the

And the office still looks *wrong*!

It's called split-screen, IIRC.

Skinner, the spy pretending to be a Nazi... or was he?

Actually, no. I was expecting to see her stuck in some tiny office,
doing grunt work. BTW, did anyone see if she had a nameplate??

And sort of pay back for all the times she's tried to get serious and he
turns it back with a joke (I'm not saying this in a bitter way). Maybe
their character switch from Season 5 changed their personalities ever so
slightly.

The Master Twinkler! I think that captures the essence of this entire ep. I

up with the wee preview for next week? It said something like:

"Stay tuned for the second half next week" and the time on the screen
said 10 PM, but the footage they were showing was from TRIANGLE.
WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT????? Does anyone know? Is Global going to
show Dreamland 1 AND 2 all in one night? I just don't understand!
ack ack ack

: this one is gotta be the top ten of the entire series, IMHO...

I said that exact same thing to my friends when the credits were rolling.
Top 10 at the very least! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

I really liked this episode. It was fun and puzzling. I like the
letterbox and the split screen parts. The Lone Gunmen were great too.
It was cool seeing Skinner again. I was wondering if he left the show.

I'm glad it's being carried over from FTF and "Drive". Now that he's set a

Actually, got to disagree with you on that. Spender was just some random
toady. The CSM seethed evil and darkness. He might as well put on the
Darth Vader costume. However, Skinner is my favorite Nazi. :)

I'm still maintaining this does not mean she's dirty. A woman answered the
phone and just assumed it was Fowley. If she really was dirty, wouldn't he

My nitpick: why weren't the LGM represented in Mulder's time warp? Mulder
had called them "Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow and Toto" in FTF. With the
blatant ref to Oz, why weren't they in 1939 as well? Damn it, there's
never enough LGM to satiate me.

I always love the funny episodes. I was laughing soo hard when
Scully kissed Skinner -- and then at the very end when Mulder
said he loved her... Oy. This show is just so dark that it's nice
to have light, funny episodes every once in a while.

OK, I have a problem with this. Since when does CSM just call up to
chat with agents? He sounded like he expected it to be Fowley, and
that she would just recognize his voice. He never identified himself.
Admittedly, he was pretty stupid to just assume Fowley would answer.
Also, he already had Scully's info in hand and was calling to get
Spender to head her off. SHE'S DIRTY!

See, Laura, Scully *can* be as interesting as Mulder, can't she? <g>

I just have one thing to add to the list of favourite parts of the ep,
after the whole Scully-running-around-scene. Remember when Mulder and
the 1939 Scully were running down the hall and the Nazi guy came up and
made them stop and they put their hands up?

Whoo-ee, but Gillian does have nice underarms. ;)

Sean, I missed you last night. Thought you'd be the first to post.

Hey, I had a brainstorm when I read Sandy's response to the ATXF Regular
Males thread. Maybe Mulder thinks like me about Scully. He likes her
(well, in his case he loves her) but he wishes she was more passionate
and adventurous, too. BUT, in his dreams, his dream woman Scully IS all
of those things. And the ironic thing is, he missed her being just
like his idealized dream woman when she was storming around the FBI.
And maybe, just maybe, there was more than artistic filming significance
to that split scene sequence when the two Scullys trade screens.

We've seen him chat with Spender.

In the basement office, there should only be two people: Spender and
Fowley. If a woman answers, would one expect it to be Fowley?

>He never identified himself.

He is one of the most elusive man in the government; would YOU identify
yourself if you were the CSM?

Exactly, the CSM wanted to talk to SPENDER. Spender wasn't even gone a
minute when Scully answered the phone. The CSM assumes the woman answering
is Spender's partner and asks her where the little weasel is.

I loved the whole hospital scene. It was even better than the kiss for
this shipper. And Skinner's lines in the hospital were great!

It was a much longer kiss than I had imagined they'd do. Too dark
though!

And that punch -- it really looked like she connected!

Please! I love how much lying Scully is doing this season to get the
info she needs, especially since she lies so poorly. She pretended to
be from the FCC in Drive, and here she pretended to be Fowley.

I'm convinced now that Skinner is clean, but *pretending* to be dirty
when necessary (sorry Stacey! ;-) ). And the kiss -- it *was* a tad
excessive. I just loved Skinner's change in attitude after the elevator
doors opened, to put on that show for his hallway audience.

Music
Costumes

And I hope they win a few, for a change. C'mon Emmys, reward

What about this idea: her use of the word "brother" here rather than
some other term (like, "Oh, geez," or "Oh my god," has some sort of
meaning; like maybe promoting the sibling-ness of their relationship, or
that Mulder's been on this quest b/c he feels he didn't fulfill his
brotherly duties to Samantha...

I was thinking that that kiss, in effect, was aimed at Mulder, b/c she
was just so grateful that Skinner was helping her find him.

I say, "Oh brother!" a lot, just the way Scully used it and I don't have
a brother or mean it in any other way except it's a substitute for
"Jeez!" Perhaps, "Oh brother!" is more common in the NY, NJ,
Philadelphia, Chicago areas than other parts of the continent. Do you
mid-westerners, west coasters, southerners say, "oh brother!"? It
doesn't count if you are re-planted in those places from the
NY/NJ/Chicago/Philadelphia parts of the country.
