What was the whole deal with Lord Kinbote? Is it a reference to
something? I really can't help but wonder.

I'm clueless as to the name. However, an earlier poster suggested that
he thought the alien named Kinbote was a tribute to Ray Harryhausen.
When I read that, a little light went on - the alien in the episode
looks (as I recall it) remarkably like the Harryhausen alien in the 1957
movie, "20 Million Miles to Earth." In the movie, the alien creature
was a Venusian who could live only on sulfur. I only wish I had taped
the episode so I could see the alien again. Perhaps it WAS
Harryhausen's creation transplanted from that movie. (Another poster has
already observed how strange the creature looked compared to the
others.) I have the movie, but not a tape of the XF episode, so I can't
be sure just from my recollection.

I had read in another posting that it was the Cyclops from of of the
Sinbad film. If that is true that would explain herky jerky motion it had
compared to the rest of the scene, because creatures from that time were
filmed like Claymation is. I thought it looked as if it had bee "lifted"
from something else.

Maybe aliens are not from outerspace but from innerspace. That was the
thought they were trying to put across.

Not to mention that the British Royal Family are a bunch of aliens.
