Everyone's been asking for a transcription of Gillian Anderson's Emmy
acceptance speech, so here you go.

Poor Gillian looked as if she was on the verge of tears, waiting to hear
the announcement. She kept pursing her lips, biting her cheek, like she
was trying to keep from crying. Then the presenter announced, "And the
Emmy goes to Gillian Anderson." Gillian closed her eyes, David grinned,
clapped, and leaned forward (he was sitting directly behind her) and gave
her a kiss on the corner of her mouth. Then she leaned over and gave her
date Rodney a kiss as well.

She got up, and started to walk to the stage. There wasn't far to go,
since she was sitting in the front row, but she had to stop to let the
cameraman get out of her way. She grinned down at him. Then we had the
hobble-skip kind of thing getting up the stairs. (It wasn't nearly so
embarrasing the second time I watched it, I have to tell you. Live, I
could have just *died* for her, but it wasn't nearly as bad watching it the
second time.) She accepted the Emmy from the presentor, gave her a kiss on
the cheek, and stepped to the mic.

"I feel so honored that you are presenting me with this award because I
have been such a huge fan of yours for so many years and, um... I'm more
nervous about this right now than I am about getting up here. Um... um...
I need to thank my, um, my family. My mom and my dad and I have a younger
brother and sister, Aaron and Zoe, who are so wonderfully normal about this
whole celebrity thing. They don't brag, they just, they, they, I'm still
their big sis. And you know what, sometimes I want to shake them and say
"don't you know who I am?" <Crowd laughed> That was a joke. <Crowd laughed
even more> Um, um, but all of my family - I'm just going to give you a
list of names - Bob, Marilyn, Mary Jo, um Michael, John, Gramma Grampa Lee
Judy um Marlice Stu Patty um Giesela Dixie um um Rosenjorgen and... um...
everybody else... um..." Then she stopped stumbling through her words and
spoke slowly, like she was out of breath. "Thank you for allowing me my
mistakes, for allowing me, um, to falter in my growth, for allowing me to
slip into the void of production for long periods of time, knowing that
eventually i will surface and be present again. Thank you immeasurably for
that, for that understanding, the support and the unconditional love. I
love you all, and I thank you for this."

And that was it.

Any errors in transcription are mine... I'm quite the fumble-fingers this
evening.

Many thanks for the transcript - I've got the emmys on tape but haven't
watched it yet so it's nice to see the speech that generated all the
hullabaloo.

From reading this, I think it sounds like a nice/lovely/good speech.
(lame adjectives I guess but somehow appropriate)

I've noticed in the past that GA isn't necessarily a confident or classy
impromptu speaker (I made the dumb assumption that all actors would be).
I guess she can't win either way - if she'd prepared a speech and
practised it or brought one to the microphone she would have got slammed
for being over-confident that she would win.

Great transcription...I suppose anyone who thought she should have thanked
DD or other Xfile crew (including me) can edit your transcription (add
whoever they think GA should thank), print it out and frame it for posterity...

I'm thinking of adding Piper to the list myself :)
