For starters, is this neccessary? Stef is one of the nicest people
around. "Nastiest poster" isn't exactly the way I'd describe her. Go on,
look in Gossamer. I'm sure you'll find a LOT of talent there.

hmm... this sounds a bit like the regular newsgroup, for some reason... so
let's stop it here and now before we get over to that level of flaming and
whatnot...
First, Stef is allowed to do what she wants, when and where she wants... and
I think that personal flames like this have no place in a public forum... and
especially not in this creative group; where we've managed to keep clear of
the 'shipper wars and whatnot up to this point...
so can't we all just get along?
and please keep this stuff to private email - again, the creative group is,
last time I checked, primarily for the discussion and publication of fanfic
related to the show... not open for personal attacks on people who have been
here a long time and contributed greatly to this group...

Is it permissable to point out that not everyone thinks as you do --
that some of us actually think that you are going well into the area of
"flaming" (as I do), and that I would guess that the majority also thinks
as I do on one more subject -- _STEPHANIE, PLEASE DON'T LEAVE_!!!!!!!
I think you are acting unacceptably, and cruelly.
Calm, measured replies will be answered -- ones that are not will be
ignored.
Hoping that Stephanie sees this, and will reconsider,

These newsgroups are supposed to be for people to have intelligent,
humorous, spirited interaction about a subject of mutual interest. Why
has this place suddenly deteriorated into a flamefest?
People, we're never going to agree about everything. I, for one, would
HATE it if we did. But surely we can discuss controversial subjects
without rancor or personal attacks. I have not been privy to all the
discussions that led up to this matter, but I DO know that from my past
experiences with Stef, I have a lot of trouble imagining that ANYTHING
she posted could qualify as nasty.
Stef, stay. Those of you who are responsible for stirring up this whole
mess, learn some manners, please. It's possible to disagree with
someone's views and state that fact vehemently WITHOUT stooping to
unfounded personal attacks.

Stefanie gave me feedback when I was just starting out. It was not a
romantic fanfic, and I am not British. I found it remarkably inspiring,
and I'm still grateful to her for her kindness. (I find it difficult
to understand why you would want Stefanie's feedback if you have
such a low opinion of her.)

First off, I said it because that's what I gleaned. Her posts come off
(to me) as being extremely obnoxious and she seems unwilling to listen to
other viewpoints no matter how well presented. Referring all of us to
Kristel does not count.
Second of all, Stef wrote me a private e-mail, saying that she was very
upset by my comments. I wrote her back, apologizing for bashing her work,
which I haven't read but now intend to. She did not reply but instead
posted her Bon Voyage message. I replied to that message and apologized
to her PUBLICLY. Perhaps you missed my reply. I notice from time to time
that my stupid server has a very selective memory.
Judging by Tim's message, I am not alone in my thinking. HOWEVER -- do
not draw me into something that happened at least a week ago, since I went
OUT OF MY WAY to make reparations.
And Char -- your flame wasn't too bad. You don't need the suit. ;-)

Look, sport, if you want to insult one of the most prolific writers on
this newsgroup, you can, but I think to obtain any credibility you should
at least try and write as much as she has before you can presume to call

Otherwise, shut the fuck up.

Okay, folks, I'm stepping into the fray here.
Like many of you, I, too, know Stephanie from online. I have found her
mail and her stories to be intelligently written and polite. I have
enjoyed a friendship with her that began through e-mail and has continued
in person (more on that in a moment).
It really, *really* bothers me that some of the people on this board seem
to think that we Americans own _The X-Files_ lock, stock, and barrel. We
don't. The creator is American. So what? It's filmed in Canada and uses
Canadian actors not only for extras but for some of the more popular
recurring roles. Actors and other people from other countries have
contributed to making this show that we all (supposedly) enjoy a success.
And this board is even more of a conglomeration of international
contributors than is the show itself, and I *like* it that way. Because
of this newsgroup I now personally have friends in Canada, England,
Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, and etc. Wonderful. And we all give
what we can to the group.
There are those who have complained stories originating in Britain and
other countries seem somewhat stilted as to the use of unfamiliar phrases,
etc. True, perhaps we'll never hear Scully asking Mulder for a lift back
to her "flat," but so long as the meaning is clear (which it usually is
from context, and which, if this is not the case, will often be clarified
in a private e-mail message or general post), who cares? This is one way
of getting an education. I can only assume that it is to Stephanie's
British terminology and writing style that this flamer refers, since I
cannot think of a single thing she has ever written (and I think I've read
most, if not all, of her stories) that has come across as *intentionally*
high-falutin'. She's an educated woman, and she writes like one.
Now, as to Steph herself. I have spent the last two months in the UK, and
while I was there I had the very great pleasure of meeting both Stephanie
Davies and Michelle Hiley (Alistair, I'm really sorry I didn't get a
chance to see you in Glasgow!). I have stayed in both their homes. I
have eaten and drunk (though not *gotten* drunk) with both of them.
Stephanie's young son slept on a camp bed in the study so I could have his
room. She drove several hours to come pick me up in Oxford so we could
drive up to Stratford for a play. She met me in London on two occasions
for lunch. She and her hubby and their son also drove out (spending
several hours in a traffic jam as well, I might add) to take me to a
lovely tea and for a drive in the Cotswolds one afternoon. In all our
time together Steph was warm and funny and smart and I knew within minutes
that I had made a friend for life (Michelle, I'm not leaving you out here
because I didn't feel the same about you, but you have not, thank God,
been the subject of such attacks). I could go on, but I won't.
I realize that this is not really usually the place for such a discussion,
but I do feel that in this case some defense is warranted, because we may
otherwise lose a gifted writer and an all-around nice person on this
newsgroup otherwise. And, pushing aside for the moment (with difficulty)
the personal aspect of this situation, I feel that the very integrity of
this newsgroup is in peril when we either maliciously or incidentally run
people off the group.
I do not feel that Stephanie's sayanora message was at all a plea for
sympathy. I saw her the afternoon before I left England and she was
obviously upset about something but would not tell me what it was, and
when I asked her some general questions about future projects, etc., she
said she didn't know if she would be online much anymore, if at all.
Thus, Steph herself may not even be reading this. If you are, Steph, I
would ask you -- and others who have been injured by similar incidents --
to reconsider. The majority of us like and respect you and your work, and
my life in particular will be darkened by your absence.
And to those of you who for any reason do not like an author's work: JUST
DON'T READ IT.
Flames and other assorted responses welcomed with equanimity.

Stef, you are a wonderful person. Your website is what encouraged
me to post my fanfic to the net in first place. Your positive
response to my (wildly diverse) stories helped me realize that I
could write. You will always have a special place in my heart.
And your website will always be one of my favorites.
It's unfathomable to me that anyone visiting this group could put

Can we please keep this out of the creative group???
I know this has been posted also in the regular newsgroup; where it seems
that the posters are much more inclined to personal attacks than any
reasonable argument... and quite frankly, I don't spend money to come online
to read juvenile stuff like this...
Keep your venom and your hatred to anywhere but this newsgroup... we're quite
happy here and don't need this type of garbage filling up space where authors
and fans are gathering to have decent discussions about the show - take it
elsewhere...
and I don't have a form flame, but I do roar...
so KEEP THIS OUT OF THIS NEWSGROUP!!!!!
I believe I've made myself clear...
oh, Michael?
personally, I like your stuff... snicker...

What is happening in this newsgroup? I thought this was a place where we
could share our talents with others and enjoy some good story telling.
The garbage that is being posted on atx is getting out of hand and I'd
hate to see it spilling over to the creative group.
We have a good thing going here. Let's not ruin it with these kinds of
immature personal attacks. If you don't like an author's writing, don't
