Hi,

I have got to the point now that I'm having trouble searching through
all the fan fic availible for something GREAT to read, as in stories
that blow you away. If people can suggest fan fictions and authers that
they think are truely great... well that would be great :)

Some of the stuff I have already read are:
Oklahoma by Amperage/Livengoo - i've already read most stories by these
authers too.
All the stories by Joann Humby
Stories by Luvmulder
Stories by Ophelia

I do not read Mulder/Scully romances, it is not my thing. I enjoy long
x-files, BSU or investigation type of thing with angst and
muldertorture. I do like Slash too, and have already read stuff by
Wombat, Xanthe, Torch, Jo B...

All the Best

The Magician Series, but you don;t
like Romance....

Oh well....you're passing up an aswesome
story though

I feel intrigued now... dammit! I'm giving the Magician series a go LOL

I've found it already at Gossamer and my gods it is huge and so far I
have found what I have read so far promising and i'm taking the advice
"relax, suspend your disbelief" to heart. I think I find the fact that
it is a Alternate Universe easy for a MSR maybe too.

BTW: I love romance, like stuff by Joanna Lindsy and Jude Deveraux... it
is just my personal opinion and more romantic to me to see Mulder and
Scully as best friends... but thats my personal taste eh :)

Thanx FoxLvDana for the recommendation.

For a fantastic story with what very accurate M/S portrayals and no
_consummated_ romance, I suggest Nascent's Theory and Practice, and also
RivkaT's Acadia.

If you're willing to tolerate very cool, in-character romance at all, Khyber's
"Reach" left me with my jaw hanging open just at the beauty of the writing.

Try the Primal Screamers FanFic Primer:

Some of the stories you listed are there, but there is also a wide variety of

No Greater Love by Karen Rasch... contrary to popular opinion, it is not an
MSR.

Theory and Practice by Nascent

Rags by Jill Selby... the combination of great characterization, interesting
case file, and dark humor made this a winner.

Oooooh. Then try Emilie Renee Karr's Horizons series for a romantic NoRomo
(Yes, they *do* exist!!!) relationship! Another one I haven't heard mentioned
around here lately is Debbie Goldstein's "Death Will Be Our Darling."

My favorite casefile writer is Jill Selby...i can't remember the addy for her
site off the top of my head (I'm not on my computer right now) but I'm sure
many other people on here have it. :) Her stories are just fantastic. :)

I don't read a lot of slash, but I really enjoy stories by Te and DBKate.
There are some *excellent* pieces.

If you like (and sorry for the shameless plug) you may want to check out my
own stories...I have written a couple of long casefiles, non-MSR but with
plenty of UST. They haven't been read by many people and I'd love to hear
what you think. That can be found at

On that note, Chronicle X has a huge list of links to author websites, so if

Mmm, Punk Maneuverability is wonderful. Usually only implied UST or MSR,
great characterization, and Venture Forth, the best Mulder/Other I've ever
read. Her web page addy is

there hasn't been anything new since March. I heard that she was working on

Ok, since you asked ;)

"Solar Flare" by Loch Ness is tailor-made to your request. Plenty of
investigation, mulder angst, etc, etc. You can find it on her archive at
http://lonestar.texas.net/~lochness
Also, her piece "Letters of Transit" is probably the best fic I've ever
read, even with the MSR which functions as an integral part of the story.
Strong characterization, great use of secondary characters and a wonderful
interpretation of the mytharc. All in a concise, complete and succinct
package of wonderful writing.

Somebody already mentioned RivkaT's "Acadia," which I'll cheerfully second.
A fascinating case file and a look at Mulder the Profiler ala the
"Grotesque" mode which is all I need to be a believer. Strong marks given
to the exchange about dreams between Mulder and Scully, Mulder's running
monologue of speeches that really exist to channel the mind of the killer
and a take on the cutthroat and brutal nature of Bill Patterson's ISU.

For straight MulderAngst and torture (kinda) you can't beat the intellectual
and fascinating vignette "Hollow Man" by Madeline Partous. Perhaps the best
piece of straight angst I've ever read and set to the harsh strains of one
of my favorite poets. Everything asserted in
this one I find eminently believable of Mulder's psyche.

Then there's "Utopia" by Mariatex. The profiling stands out more than
anything, and conducted in such a manner as to illustrate the drive in
Mulder's soul rather than just the rot. Some Mulder/Other here, but it's
completely secondary to the story and not explicit in any way.

I'll throw in a pitch for my own crossover "Homicidal Tendencies Part I:
Scarabaeus" and its sequel, "Part II: The God of the Dead." These are a
crossover with Homicide, but they are set in the XF universe and you don't
have to watch Homicide to follow it. The Homicide detectives simply work
the X file with M&S. And there are some slight references to the tie-in
from the actual ep "Unusual Suspects." It's a series of murders connected
with a bizarre Egyptian mythology angle that I consider some of my best
work. Good Mulder profiling and a social tie-in -- something that used to
be one of my favorite features of XF (we seem to be seeing less of that).

For Mulder/Krycek slash, I heartily recommend any of Rachel Arlington's
stuff.

All of these besides LN's can be found at the Gossamer main archive.

And if these aren't enough, try Laura Burchard's excellent recommendations
page at:
http://traveller.simplenet.com/xfiles/xfavor.htm

I find her analysis to be right on the money when it comes to quality fic.

Enjoy!!

For long stories with plot and case investigations try
"Specimen 51" and "Carol Lee" by Westshore
"Corpse" and "Hell and Back" by Livengoo
"Out of the Dark" by Kassandra (slash and not for the faint-hearted)
"Etched" by Sean Smith
"Playing For Keeps" by Youkneek and Bliss
"The Garden District Murders" by GeoRed
"The Abyss Looks Back", "And Chaos Shall Reign" and "And Then There Was
One" by Kronos

As for slash, any story by Kassandra, JiM, Lyrica, Palinurus, torch or
A. Leigh-Anne Childe is absolutely great.

Sorry for all the great stories that I am forgetting right now.

and took the words RIGHT out of my mouth.

Jennifer Stoy's "Drive, He Said" was an excellent portrait of a Scully
who hasn't *quite* gone crazy yet, but is teetering RIGHT on the edge.
And the circumstances would certainly warrant insanity...

Meredith's "Believer" was a strong look into Scully's mind, but one
line in particular sent me reeling from the computer in awe. In the
piece, Scully expoundings on the things she believes in, and her proof
in their existance.

At some point in the story, she says one of the things she believes in
is love, and explains: "I have the bruised imprint of the heel of
Mulder's hand on my sternum as proof. A brown-green half-moon between
and slightly above my breasts, testament of his overriding fear that I
had taken my last fluid-bound breath." That line made me actually,
literally PONDER something for the first time in my life.

There may be more to follow...

I definitely second these two!

And I have one more to add to this thread. An amazing story, MSR, called "Fealty," by
Birgit Mueller. Check it out. :)

I'm kinda ambivalent on this. On the one hand, I like the idea of seeing
other people's reviews. OTOH, as an author, I'd like to make the decision
whether or not to open myself up to that, IYKWIM. OTOOH, people post...well,
not really "reviews," but commentaries, recommendations, and so forth, here
without the author having necessarily said to go ahead and talk about it in
public. OTOOOH....

Yeah, ambivalent...that would be the word....
