Ok... answer me this (but only if it pleases your loveliness =)

In numerous stories it is said that Spooky's eyes are hazel. I've always
taken hazel to mean having some element of brown in them. Mixture between
green and brown or between blue and brown. After two years of reading fanfic
it's kinda gotten to me. Even my roommate knows that the two comments that
will exit my mouth while we watch the X-Files is 1) Geez, how many pounds did
DD put on in the past 5 years? 2) His eyes are BLUE/GREEN dammit! And blue +
green does NOT equal any element of brown. And I see no gold either.

ok... so... what's the deal?

His eyes are hazel. They are a blue-green, mostly green, most of the
time, but they do sometimes look brown or some mixture of a bunch
of colors. And "hazel" normally, to me, just means eyes that change
colors, whether or not there's any brown involved. But his are most
definitely brown sometimes. (For a good example, try the postcard
of him on the Fox site -- brown eyes.)

I alway refer to Mulder's eyes as 'hazel gray" because IMO, that's what they
are. On the show, they generally seem to be a smoky gray color---but there are
times, under certain conditions, when I can see some green...and some golden
brown (especially in close-ups). So that would fulfill the "hazel"
requirement.

I have hazel eyes...but there is no brown...like it was said earlier...it just
means the eyes change colors....they are also called mood eyes...but hazel is
the actual name.....

Basically...what I call the kind of hazel eyes that David has...
Let me put it another way. David has the kind of hazel eyes that change color
depending on his mood, the lighting, and what he's wearing. Harrison Ford's
eyes are the same color.

I agree. Both my kids have exactly the same kind of eyes as David. The
predominant color depends upon lighting, mood, and more importantly what they
are wearing. And I think somewhere along the way blue eye color has to come
into the equation - my husband's eyes are brown (he's Chinese so there is no
other color in his genes) and mine are blue -predominant color in my family.

I needed this cleared up, too, so thanks, guys. Before season five I used to
always say hazel *as in green and brown* but then, in season five, they took on
a very bluish look. My first thought was *ha, Duchovny grabbed the wrong
contacts today* but they were like that almost every week. I remember turning
to my friend one day and saying 'whoa, talk about spooky'...thanks everyone.

I have a picture from RSD (a .jpg) in which DD's eyes are *very* blue. Maybe
it's the lighting; I don't know.

Ok ok... see I just always figured hazel to be like the color of hazelnuts.

Sorry. I stand corrected in my definition of hazel eyes.

I have always seen DD's eyes as hazel, based on TV interviews and the show, of
course. I just wanted to point something out- a lot of people are saying
they're green, or blue, or whatever because of a photo. I have seen photos of
GA with the richest brown eyes you ever saw. Before pictures are published,
they are touched up- any stuff that is not wanted in the picture is fixed, and
*often* the color is tweaked to make the picture more attractive. Eye color is
brightened, or slightly changed, depending on the photo editor. Because of
that, in most photos you see, eye color is whatever the editor wanted it to be.
Okay, I'm done blabbing. <g> Go back to reading!! I know I will!

Well he probably has similar eyes to mine... They change from
golden... to darker brown... to an dark green... to an almost blue
green... and most of the time, they aren't just one solid color. And
yes it is spooky. Can you just imagine How many times I've been told
"you're lying!!!!" when I swore that I wasn't wearing contacts...
But hazel eyes can be really odd sometimes. My brother has bright-
blue/ gold hazel eyes... girls go crazy for his eyes.

I must agree here that DD, like myself, is probably one of those unique
creatures whose eyes change colors. It's particularly fun when he's got
brown eyes in one picture, green in another, and almost blue yet again.

Okay, I've been reading this thread for a little while, and I'm going to ask
this question, since it does have to do with Mulder's eyes. Has anyone
besides myself noticed that sometimes one of DD's eyes (the right one) is
really dialated (large pupil, very little colored iris) while the left one
is normal? There are several times I can think of, just not right off the
top of my head, but I *think* the ship scene from Deep Throat is one, and
the part in one of the myth eps where he is on some boxes outside a
warehouse, spying on a supposed UFO is where I first noticed it. Please,
someone, tell me I'm not seeing things. And if I'm not, then what the hell
is it with DD's eyes? Was he in some kind of accident or what, cause as far
as I know, that's not normal, to have your pupils be that different. Oh,
well, I'll quit ranting now...

I think this little extract from an interview DD gave in Details magazine
(June 1997) will answer your question :
"...my eyes are very bad. I nearly lost my right eye in a basketball
accident, so I can't see a thing. I have one pupil dilated like David
Bowie."

No, you're not seeing things. I read somewhere that this was the result of a
basketball injury - I think getting poked in the eye was the actual cause.

Are you sure it's '97? I picked up the June '98 issue with a silver GA on the
cover. I haven't scanned through the article recently but I will soon.

Another instance where DD's eyes dilate unequally is in R&B when he's sitting
on Scully's bedside. I just always thought it was due to one side of his face
being father from the brighter lights than the other. Oh well, so I was wrong.
What else is new?

Even if that's the case, people's eyes are generally supposed to dilate
identically, no matter if there's light in only one or the other.

I believe he also stated on a talk show (Letterman or Leno--I can't remember)
that the surgery required for the eye injury was a lens replacement and that
the muscle in the eye that allows for dialation of the pupil was damaged.

I'm sure that the man also has a nice array of contacts since he states that
his eyesight sucks big time and can't see squat without corrective lenses.
Still...It might be difficult to wear them with a lense replacement. Maybe the
reason he remembers his lines so well is that he doesn't have a choice and has
learned to compensate for the disability. (Cue cards or teleprompter would be
a bitch. ie: the awards ceremony where he had to have Tea retrieve his
glasses.)

Yes. DD had an accident while playing basketball in college, I believe and
almost lost his right eye - it's permanently dilated.
The article that reports this is The Details magazine from two years ago.
I believe all the articles regarding DD is on The PA X-Files site.

This is bizarre.

I have never noticed the least bit of blue in his eyes. I've always seen green
and light brown and that inbetween color called hazel. I've got that promo
poster that came out a year or so ago, Mulder in full face, Scully in fully
face only half-illuminated. Her eyes are the most wonderful blue. His are like
moss over oak.

My husband's eyes are gray-green, a delightful color without a hint of blue
unless he puts on something blue. Me? I'm just mocha brown.

Well, the deal is that he wears color contacts. Rob Prior, who is an airbrush
artist extraordinaire, and does work for FOX, is a friend of Davids, and says
that the reason his eyes seem to change color is because of contacts. I
believe he said that David's actual eye color is hazel, but he could have said

*sigh* Moss over oak. Beautiful analogy....
But anyway, I went to an airbrush demo at Rebelcon in Massachusetts, and Rob
Prior, who does a lot of the posters for TXF, knows David pretty well. He says
the reason David's eyes seem to change color is that he wears color contacts,
