My newsreader won't show this story because it's too long and wants to turn it
into an attachment. You might consider posting less than 20 K of story to the
newsgroup.

Actually, Prufrock, I have found that under 21k is usually best. AOL doesn't
like to handle anything more than that in email or newsreader.

I can sympathize with Prufrock's lack of knowledge about all the quirks of
AOL. I always wondered why everything forwarded to me in email by my AOL
friends was a stinkin' attachment, sometimes taking 8 or 9 clicks to open
due to all the other AOL forwards!

If this nugget of information isn't in the FAQs, maybe someone could add it.
I didn't have a problem reading the entire story, but there are many many
AOLers on this ng.

Well, if they did, here's the direct URL to the whole thing:

And I loved it! :-)

I've been reading x files fanfic for years, but this one is so magnificent, I
will never forget it. What a writer this person is, and how generous to share
his/her gift with all of us. I'm still trying to recover from this one.

I don't think a medical professional would
ever use an inflammatory term like
"partial birth abortion" to refer to a medical procedure which could save a
woman's life.

I haven't read the story, and I'm not trying to be inflammatory, but just to
set the record straigh, check out the following letter from the AMA:

"American Medical Association

May 19, 1997

The Honorable Rick Santorum
United States Senate
120 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Senator Santorum:

The American Medical Association (AMA) is writing to support HR 1122, "The
Partial- Birth Abortion Ban Act of 1997," as amended. Although our general
policy is to oppose legislation criminalizing medical practice or procedure,
the AMA has supported such legislation where the procedure was narrowly defined
and not medically indicated. HR 1122 now meets both those tests. "

If anyone is interested, I found this letter at the following URL:

And to make the record straighter:

The term "Partial Birth Abortion" was created by anti-choice supporters to
describe a medical procedure that they have largely misrepresented.

Here's another site:

http://www.religioustolerance.org/abo_pba.htm

As far as this story goes, Mulder tries
to practice anti-choice against Scully
by trying to force her to have an abortion.
While I can understand the circumstances
which would drive him to almost commit
such an act, I still see it as anti-choice
as denying a woman an abortion.
However, that's not really the issue I'm
raising here.

I'm taking issue with the doctor's attitude
which was reprehensible. He was NOT
against aborting the fetus because it
opposed Scully's wishes. If that was
the reason for his opposition, he would be
acting ethically. It was clear in this case though, that it was the procedure
itself
that he had a major problem with as evidenced by his use of the term "partial
birth abortion" among other things. This happened to be
one of the cases where this rare, extreme
procedure would be indicated as it appeared
Scully would likely die if she carried the baby
to term.
