It's August, I'm bored, I want these stories to be finished, darnitall!

Following are recommendations and not-too-subtle nudges to the
associated authors to please please please give us a little more of
these stories. What happens next? In no particular order:

C. Slatton's "Mercury Falling" - fabulous dark & angsty portrayal of
(IIRC) Mulder's last profiling case, and his beginning with Reggie
Purdue. "Domination of Lies" was brilliant, this looks to be as good.
But she's left us hanging with just a few chapters to go. BTW, I love
the chapter titles.

Blueswirl's "Razor's Edge" - Dark Scully. Frankly I can't see the
Scully I see every week getting to this point, but Blueswirl's writing
is so great I don't care. Scully's gone deep undercover with the Irish
Mafia in NYC, and Mulder wants her out. But this Scully is into the
dark & dangerous thing, and Mulder's presence just ups the ante. This
one works even if you aren't an XF fan, it really gets into the whole
risk-as-lifestyle thing. More?

Morgan's "Complicity" - I sense a theme here. I like it dark. MSR but
not (so far) in a good way. Our heroes come together in the midst of
an ugly serial-killer case while working for Kersh. I love it: "This
won't save us." Mulder's going deep and pulling Scully down into the
darkness with him. I liked "The Last Gift" but this is proof that
Morgan just keeps getting better.

Nicole Perry's "Roads" - ok, so I'm on the bandwagon. I have to say
these are not 5th or 6th-season characterizations, which is ok because
the story started back in the 3rd season (I think); these days there's
so much angst & tragedy built up that I find the darker MSRs more
plausible. Notwithstanding, it's a great story and I wanna see what
happens in LA.

Khyber's "Sokol" - a very ambitious conspiracy story that just keeps
getting more tangled. MSR, but that isn't the focus. Can't wait to
see how he resolves all this. But as Khyber has acknowledged his
charter membership in the Slow Writers Club, we may have to wait
awhile. Just remember Khyber - you don't really need to sleep <g>.

Amanda Finch's "Out of" stories - great characterizations, some nasty
emotional torture for Mulder. The last installment left us hanging,
with Mulder captured by someone who sure *looks* like Scully but who's
in Krycek's company... Creative & well-written.

Hm - this is getting long. There are lots of other great stories out
there ongoing, that everybody knows about, like Rachel Howard's "Above
Rubies", Marguerite's "Amor Caritas", MABTng's "Last One Standing",
Swikstr's "Homicidal Tendencies"... Thanks folks and keep writing!

Any other WIPS out there that folks want to recommend? I'm afraid I've
hit the major ones that most people know about already - what are the
more obscure ones, or by newer writers, that I've missed?

I check Chronicle X's "In Press" page every day to see if Michaela has
posted the next chapter to "Unnatural Disasters". I read a chunk of it
one night months (and months) ago, and was on the edge of my seat. I
may have even fallen off. I just wish she'd write faster. (sigh)

Also, I am absolutely loving Louise Marin's "Any Other Name".
Thankfully, she seems to be a fairly steady writer, and will not leave
us dangling for months upon months, waiting for the next installment.

Yup - I just realized I'd forgotten "Unnatural Disaster". Soon
finished, I hope? I'm liking "Any Other Name" as well, just not as
consumed by it, and I don't know why - certainly no fault of the
Louise's. Probably because I don't want Mulder to be dead, and a clone
just ain't the same. But then, that's probably the point here...

One other one I'd forgotten to list that I *love* - "Minnesota" by A
Wicked Zoot. Now is it just me or is she riffing on "Oklahoma"?
Whatever - it's hysterical and dark at the same time. Poor
Pendrell... I'm sorry I found the fanfic thing only after Bliss pulled
all her stuff off the web, because this one is great. Cheesecake for
Zoot.

I hereby propose cofax's new fanfic rating system: good gets chocolate-
chip cookies, better gets my homemade fresh-ginger gingersnaps, the
best ones get, oh, chocolate-hazelnut cheesecake. And I've been on the
'net long enough to know better than to say *anything* about a fic I
don't like.

Hmm- guess I should put in a plug for the folks who maintain the WIP
pages. The ones I check the most often are Chronicle X and Galias'
Future Visions page. Thanks folks - you make it so much easier for we
who would wade through the daily inundation of electrons ;-) Are there
any other comprehensive WIP pages other than Gossamer?

Oh, Michaela has a fabulous long WIP going right now -- "Unnatural Disaster".
Scully's old friend Ed Jerse comes back for a visit.

And there's Karen Rasch's "Words to Live By".

Rachel Anton's "World without End: Book II" has me captivated, too -- and I'm
not even a SKipper! ; )

These three are all listed on the In Press page at Chronicle X.

I'd have to reccommend Paige Caldwell's "Comfortably Numb". It
has 3 parts right now. It is a stark, daring look at a scenario
that can quite possibly happen with Mulder and Scully... and it is
something I have not read before in Xfic.

Very angsty and compelling story... and I am not just saying that
because I beta her work... I beta her work because she is
a really great and compelling author.

It's not the wait that kills me, it's the fact that I've forgotten what
happened previously, and have to backtrack 4 or 5 chapters to pick up
the thread. It's especially bad since I'm following so *many* WIPs at
once. Fr'instance, I just discovered Khyber posted another chapter of
Sokol, which made me go back & reread the previous 2. If they
published novels like that, I'd never make it off my couch. [OT on/

i am anxiously awaiting the next installment of "Seisdeadh" by IndigoMuse...
though i'm not sure where you can find previous installments. it's been a
while since the last one so i'm hoping we'll see something new really soon...
this is my idea of subtle hinting. :)

as someone else mentioned, i'm also really enjoying "any other name" by louise
marin. great story.

I must second, third and fourth the 'Dinah' rec. You do have to be prepared
to bite your nails for a *long* time between chapters, but it's well worth
it. Somewhat dark and trippy, with a great edge of suspense, spot-on
characterisation, and an incredibly...*visual* feel to it.

"The Amos Absolution" by Bidie McCucholl is really good. Great Scully
characterization, great M/S dialogue, angst all around. I'm still waiting

Has anyone recommended "One Flew East, One Flew West" by Danielle
Leigh yet? Granted, it hasn't been updated in what seems like forever,
but it's SO good that it's worth the wait. I first read it when only the
first part was up, and I thought then that it would be really hard to
top, but what I've read of the second part is even better. Please, I
want *more*!!!

You can find it at:

Also, speaking of WIPs that haven't been updated in a while,
"Ellipsis" by Rambo Dawson is also very good. And the author says that
he'll start writing it again pretty soon :) Of course, that was in the
end of June, and there are still no new chapters, but one can always
hope, right ;)
