Summer Writing Challenges

Looking for something to amuse your muse during the remainder of the
summer? Wander over to the archives at Mulder's Creek for a bunch of
challenges.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

http://www.mulderscreek.com/halloween/bump.html

Bump in the night, the Halloween/scaryfic archive has two new
challenges for you.
Sure, it's not near Halloween yet, but have you ever noticed that
there are more summer releases of new horror movies than ones in
October?

#1. Braaaiiiiins Challenge

Are you the sort of person who is eagerly awaiting the next
installments of The Walking Dead, The Forest of Hands and Teeth,
Resident Evil, [time of day] of The Dead, or World War Z? We have a
task for you...

Challenge Requirements:

* Zombies are rampaging in at least your character's immediate area.
Why? What happened? How is the character coping? How extensive is the
problem: local? state? country? worldwide?

* Chose *one* of the following people as your focal character, and
chose carefully since you may only use the one you pick:
Mulder
Scully
Skinner
Doggett
Reyes
Krycek
Marita
Gibson
William (presumably older than infancy)

* This fic will be one person's account of events, though they can of
course discuss things at length with other characters. So... Write
your story in either first person (the character tells the story
through the use of "I" and "me/my") or close third person (use "s/he"
but the character is in every scene *and* the only thoughts/feelings
readers are told directly are this character's; all other characters'
thoughts/feelings are conveyed via the focal character's
interpretations of them. A well-known example of close third person
is all but the ministry of magic scenes in the Harry Potter series.)

* You may write this story as a crossover if you wish.

#2. Scared Stiff Challenge
The fact that fear and sexual arousal are similar is a common claim.
Write a story that co-mingles the two.

Challenge Requirements:

* Send two characters into a scary situation (either on an official
case or their own time) and make sure over the course of the story
that:

a. your characters encounter something of a supernatural (i.e. one of
the many creatures types featured here) nature that really frightens
them.

b. ...and then they had sex. R or NC-17, please.

* as always, you may write a crossover if you wish.

Completed fics for both challenges should be sent here send completed
fics to xfbump...@mulderscreek.com

http://www.mulderscreek.com/truthstill/main.html

The newest addition to the Mulder's Creek family is The Truth is
Still Out There, a brand new general challenge site. It features
challenges created by me, guest challenges, and 1013 word challenges.
We'll be looking for more guest challenges in the fall, so if you
have any in mind after submitting a fic...

Title Challenge
http://www.mulderscreek.com/truthstill/titlechallenge.html
Write a fic to fit one of the several dozen suggested titles on the
page linked above.

Twice Told Tale Challenge
http://www.mulderscreek.com/truthstill/twicetoldchallenge.html
Borrow the plot of an existing book or movie and give it an X-Files
twist.

1013 Words About Summer Challenge
http://www.mulderscreek.com/truthstill/1013summer.html
Include a
summer meal or event *and some element of the paranormal.

bellefleur's Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed Challenge
http://www.mulderscreek.com/truthstill/sleepingbed.html
What if after months of searching for Mulder, Scully woke up one
morning to find him curled up in bed next to her, sound asleep?
(check out the fic already written for this, and write your own)

http://www.mulderscreek.com/nurseryfiles.html

And finally, there are several challenges at The Nursery Files
baby/kid/teenfic archive who are eagerly awaiting having stories
written for them. There's nothing sadder than a kidfic challenge with
no one to love them... Don't forget (for the challenges in this
section only) all fics must have a character under the age of 20 in
them.

William's 10th Birthday Challenge
May 20th, 2011 makes a decade since William's birth. Use three given
words in a fic to celebrate the day.

Take Your Child To Work Day (XF Style) Challenge
Send an X-Files character's offspring with them on a case

Plucked From the Past Challenge
Use time travel to rescue Samantha Mulder, Emily Sim, or Luke Doggett
from their early death

Other Family Holidays Challenge
Show a couple (other than Mulder and Scully) spending a holiday with
their child/ren

I'll Be Cloned For Christmas Challenge
Clone one of the canon characters this Christmas!

One Each Way Challenge
In fics Mulder and Scully acquire children in a variety of ways.
Write a fic that includes every one of those six (or up to nine!)
ways. We expect silly, but serious would impress us too.

Kicked Out Challenge
The Van de Kamps have kicked William out. What happened?!

IWTB Scene Re-Write Challenge
Rewrite part or all of the second X-Files movie to include William

My Baby Isn't Human Challenge
Convinced that their child isn't human, someone seeks X-Files help

Televised Challenge
Months after giving him up, Scully sees William on TV. Why?

Children With Others Challenge
Give a main character a child with another character that they're not
usually paired up with (Scully & Skinner or Doggett, Mulder & Marita
or Reyes etc)

Doggett-Reyes (DRR) Babyfic Challenge
Give Doggett and Reyes a baby or very young child

You can find the complete details for each of these challenges (and
the dozens of others people have written fics for...not that you
couldn't write another for those too) here, along with a FAQ for new
writers. http://www.mulderscreek.com/tnf/challengeshub.html

Have a great summer folks, and I hope we see some new fics from you
soon!
