I'm tired of seeing mostly spam on this board -- so, I'm being proactive and
writing something...anything. Please don't flame me, I know it's useless, but
at least it has something to do with with Wiseguy and isn't an offer on "how to
enlarge your penis" (I don't even have a penis!)
Useless observation #1: in Fascination for the Flame, the mother of the Paco's
bride is none other than Mrs. Mulder from the X-Files. I guess now we know
what *really* happened to Samantha.
Useless observation #2: Blood Dance was directed by Kim Manners, who directs
the best episodes of the X-Files. Poor Mel!
And a question: why does the name "William A. Fraker" sound so familiar? He
is/was a director...what else has he done?
Have a great MLK day. Take care!

You don't by any chance mean William Frakes, do you, of Star Trek
Next Gen fame? Of course, I don't remember him being in WiseGuy,
so maybe my comment is equally useless - but then, that's the
order of the day, isn't it ;-)
Speaking of which, here's one that I posted a while back, though
not formally as a UO (Useless Observation):
UO #4: Ray Sharkey, he of Sonny Steelgrave fame, played a common
thief in the pilot episode of Barney Miller back in 1974. Fish has
trouble chasing after him and he gets stuck in a cell with Marty,
a recurring homosexual character.
UO #5: Elsa Raven (Vinnie's Mom) was the "Save The Clocktower"
Lady in Back To The Future, Part I.
UO #6: William Russ (Lococco) was a police officer turned rebel
in "V: The Mini-Series" (The first one). They replaced him with a
different actor in "V: The Final Battle", and maybe replaced the
character as well.
UO #7: Tim Curry (Winston Newquay) played the prosecuting
attorney in a song entitled "The Trial" from Pink Floyd's The
Wall as performed live in Berlin in July of 1990.
(And that's avoiding the obvious ones) Guess you could say
you rang my bell. I'm the kind of person who notices these
things.

30 years.

Is this "Experience"? And how about the "Protection" episode of BM he did in December, 1975?
Does he play the same thief in it or someone completely new?
UQ #1: Did the entire cast of WG appear in CRIME STORY at one time or another? Yeah, I know
I'm exagerating, but I have one tape of seven episodes and I swear I saw *6* WG people. And
that doesn't even cover behind the camera guys like David Burke and Eric Blakeney.

Anthony Denison (John Raglin in Garment Trade arc) played one of the
main roles in it : the super-cool villain Ray Luca with a funny haircut.
John Santucci (Joey Bottles in Garment Trade arc) played Luca's right
hand Taglia.Darlanne Fluegel (Lacey in Lynchboro arc) played Torello's
wife (Torello was the main actor in CS, the FBI-agent who is hunting
after Ray Luca).Ray Sharkey, Kevin Spacey, William Russ, Patricia
Charbonneau, Patti D'Arbanville, Ted Levine (played the villain in last
WG-movie), Jon Polito (played Eddie Van Platt in "Player to be named
now") and Steve Ryan played little roles in CS. That makes allready 11 !
And Burke & Blakeney wrote also a couple of episodes, I guess.

Just did a search on IMDb on William A. Fraker and it looks like the guy
must have been a famous cinematographer before he did Wiseguy. He was 5
times nominated for the Oscars with films like "Looking for Mr.
Goodbar", "1941", "Heaven can't wait" and "Murphy's Romance". The
strange thing is that he didn't do a big movie anymore since Wiseguy.

I'm not aware of that one, we'll have to wait until that tape arrives
from Columbia House.
And now here's one that Babylon 5 fans could truly appreciate:
John Snyder, who played Ziffo (I think? Help me out here - I
know he was the one who tried to off Don Aiuppo) in the
Mob Wars arc, had a guest spot in one episode of B5 in
season 1. The episode was entitled "By Any Means
Necessary" and he played Orin Zento, a ruthless labor
negotiator. If I had to guess it must have been his acting
on Wiseguy that got him the part because he played Zento
just about the way he played Ziffo. By the way, Zento, while
he doesn't get killed, doesn't fare very well, just like Ziffo
didn't.
> John Snyder, who played Ziffo (I think? Help me out here - I

Little correction : he played Joey Grosset, the guy who killed Ziffo.

he played vinnies friend mooch, ricky pinzolo's lawyer,

You try to connect actors to Wiseguy in 6 steps or less. For
example...President Clinton (Letterman's on & he's goofing on him at the
moment):
(1) President Clinton was in Contact (albeit against his will) with Jodie
Foster
(2) Jodie Foster was in Silence of the Lambs w/Anthony Hopkins
(3) Anthony Hopkins was in Amistad with Matthew McConaghy (however the hell you
spell it)
(4) Matthew McConnaghy was in A Time to Kill w/Kevin Spacey... who was in
Wiseguy.
So, there you go. Anyone else?
We can trim this one down even more. McConahay was in CONTACT as well so we can go directly
from Clinton to McConhay to Spacey.

To connect the flamish nr. 1 actor Jan Decleir with Wiseguy there's only

Strange question. It's on your keyboard as lowercase-character for "2"
(as "é"). Maybe you don't have it on your keyboard because I have a
Belgian keyboard that can be different from an American one. We're
having sepparate buttons for "é", "è", "à" and "ù" cause we use it very

How many seconds was Paul Guilfoyle in it ? I just noticed him in the
ending credits.

Since Bruno's brought up Kevin Spacey, LA CONFIDENTIAL is triply connected to WG because it
includes Spacey, David Strathairn, and Paul Guilfoyle. And while it doesn't measure up to
Merricat's connection, if you're willing to count buildings I drove past the Formosa from
CONFIDENTIAL three times in November. They're in the process of remodeling, probably with the
rental money they got from the film company. So I'm kinda vaguely connected to WG via Spacey
since he shot that wonderful Lana Turner scene there.

He's in the opening scene at the night club. But even though Cohen is killed off in short
order, it's his death and the resulting power vacuum that sets the entire story in motion.
Melody
Actually, Mickey Cohen wasn't killed off -- he just went to prison for the rest
of the movie. I should know, as both an Ellroy *and* a Spacey enthusiast, I
saw it four times. :O (Plus I read the book...)

Yep, I'm embarassed about that one since I had only seen it *twice*. But I went to see
CONFIDENTIAL again last night and immediately noticed my goof.

Oh, right. He was Mickey Cohen. But I just know Paul Guylfoyle from WG.
Haven't seen him in another movie yet. So I didn't remember very good
how he looked like.

You might have and not realized it since for some reason Guilfoyle had blond hair when he played
Calvin. But he's one of the busier character actors and has appeared in a number of big budget
pictures. Try checking out RANSOM, AIR FORCE ONE, NIGHT FALLS ON MANHATTAN, AMISTAD, PRIMARY
COLORS, the list goes on.

There will be a reason why he had blond hair in WG. As I know, Calvin
Hollins was a neo-nazi, and Hitler following, the strongest people are
having blond hair and blue eyes.
I'll have to wait a couple of months to see AMISTAD. It's always
frustrating that there are always a couple of months between the
American release and the Belgian release.
Thanks
