Wings fans!

Maybe you can help me out. One of the producers of Wings was named Roz Doyle.
Was the name given to Frasier's producer on that show in honor of the real Roz
Doyle, or is it merely coinsidence? Peri Gelpin (who plays Roz Doyle on
"Frasier") played on an episode of Wings too in the "worst date competition"
episode. It is my inclination that Frasier's Roz was indeed named after real
producer Roz.

Hope to get the answer.

I'll be glad to help! Peri Gilpin had been the first choice to play Helen
Troyonkis, a greek immigrant who ran the lunch counter and was a friend of the
Hackett brothers. The part part of Helen was later rewritten and given the
last name of Chappel, a native texan who moved to the island when she was ten.
Roz Doyle, the producer of Wings, remembered Peri Gilpin and recommended her
for the role of Barbara 242, Brian's video date in Four Dates That Will Live In
Infamy. When Cheers ended and the creators were hard at work on the spinoff
Frasier, they wanted to cast Lisa Cudrow (shudder) as Frasier's call screener
and producer. They found out that Kudrow just didn't have the screen presence
to match Grammer and they wanted someone else. Roz Doyle recommended PG for
the role to the creators and they gave her a try. They liked her so much,
they chose her.
Before Frasier started shooting, Roz Doyle died of cancer. To honor the
produceer who had given her the break she needed, PG asked that Frasier's fun
loving producer be named Roz Doyle! and that is the rest of the story!

Or as David Lee put it:

Lisa was originally cast as Roz. She is a terrific actress but the fit with
the part wasn't right, so with great regret we made a change after four days
of rehearsal.

I just remember seeing a commercial for Friends where Kudrow looked just like
the stereotypical DUMB BLONDE!!! Good thing she didn't get the role of Helen
on Wings, and thankfully Crystal was so good!!!
