I finally saw the 3rd Sandy Cooper episode for the first time the
other day (don't know how I missed it before) and I personally thought
it was just AWFUL!!! Why did they have to bring her back a 3rd time?
It was pretty pointless, IMHO. The only part of the episode I really
liked was when Roy and Antonio were confessing the bad things they did
to each other.

I think the third in the Sandy Coeper
series was not the best, but I really
enjoy the concept of the episodes.
A judge sets off to Nantucket to unleash
frustrations on poor Joe Hackett.
When she is through tormenting Joe
she leaves clear minded and refreshed.
It seems to keep her sane for a year.
Then all of a sudden SHE'S BAAAACK!

Who would not want to do something
like this? I would do it but I'd get caught!
I would look foolish! Sandy makes Joe
look foolish! Too Funny!

I liked the concept too, but the 3rd time just didn't seem funny. It
was just plain silly, IMHO. I probably would have liked it better if
Sandy was caught.

>I probably would have liked it better if

Now this could be interesting! How would it
happen? Hmmm, let's see........

As Helen starts walking up the stairs she over
hears Sandy saying her good-byes to Joey Bear.
The stunned look of "CAUGHT" surfaces on
Sandy's face! Sandy of course blames Joe for
her tormented soul. The unrealized love she held
for him as a teenager. The smirks at her, the
whispers, the way he would ignore her all during
the walk home from school. If Joe had not been
so cruel and given her an ounce of attention
she could have led a normal life and let go of
the dream, the love and the life she would never
share with Joe Hackett!!!
Joe stands there simply beside himself with glee!
She's been found out! Get Sandy a Thorozene
Big Gulp somebody!!! Joe jumps, hops and claps his
hands as he waits for apologies from his wife, Brian
and Casey. But wait.............
They are sneering at Joe! "How could you treat her
like this Joe?" say's Helen. "Geesh Joe I thought you
were a better man than that" says Brian.
Casey calls him a rat fink. They are all consoling
poor Sandy for days. She must stay with Joe and
Helen till she recovers from her little breakdown!
On the way out of the airport she once again
winks at Joe and says......
"See you around Joey Bear"

Now what good would it have done for Joe if
she would have been caught! NONE!!!
But it would have been a good laugh for us!

The problem was that, by the third Sandy Cooper episode, Joe Hackett was no
longer a real human being; they had turned him into a caricature and he was
over-victimized by Sandy.

I also did not like the episode where Brian tells Joe he believes him because
he has no imagination and would not make up something like what Sandy had been
doing. This smacks of reality. But, in the episode, Brian was just baiting
Joe for another gag, leaving us to supposedly ignore the validity of Joe being
unlikely to lie!

I agree. The writers really ruined Joe's character the last 2 seasons,
IMHO. He seemed to go from being a tense, uptight, sensitive, lovably
naive guy to some cartoonish moron.

If they tarred and feathered him
and made Joe stand in the corner
and spit wooden nickels, I still would
have taken him over any of the
other guys in the cast! That's
in any season.
JMHO! Right Lynne!??!

Don't get me wrong. I love Joe. I just didn't care for the way the
writers made him at times during the last year or two. Same with Helen
and Antonio. They were almost painful to watch at times. The writers
seemed to forget the way they acted in the earlier seasons. Joe was
too goofy at times, Helen was too dependant on Joe at times, and
Antonio acted like an unstable tyrant or whiny, self-absorbed loser at
times.

I see what you are saying Kristen.
When I've got nothing better to do
I like to pull people's legs and their strings.
I think my favorite Joe era was
when he broke up with Helen
and she kept ramming her Jeep
through his office.
Good Heavens! How could the
writers out do the court scene?!
BWAHAHA! Kicking away the crutch!
Too Dang Funny!!!

I do know what you mean. I loved every character on the show (with the
exception of Alex. No offense fellas, she just never grew on me) But there were
certain times in certain shows where someone or the other just grated on my
nerves. Ex: Antonio teaching Brian the cabby business. Antonio got annoying to
me. And the show where Joe was flying Brian and Alex to somewhere and they
couldn't land.... Brian bugged me there. I think that's the only time Brian
bugged me. And even Joe bugged me when he sued Helen for crashing his office.
How 'bout ya'll? Who bugged ya when?

By the third Sandy Cooper episode, NONE of the characters resembled "real
human beings." Seemed like after the departure of Lowell, the writers
resorted to silly, slapstick comedy at the expense of every other
character's integrity. Their humor failed in all but a few episodes. The
only character that didn't fall victim was Alex, because she departed before
Wings' downfall.

Surprisingly, I at one point had all but one episode of Wings on tape. The
tapes of the first five seasons are completely ruined now, having been
watched far more times than a VHS cassette ought to be watched (WHERE THE
HELL ARE THE DVD's?!), but the tapes of the last few seasons are as good as
new, sitting mostly unwatched in a box in my basement. I don't mind the
later episodes, but I have no desire to watch them repeatedly (BUT I'D STILL
BUY THEM ON DVD -- hint hint to the folks at Paramount!).

Ahhh.... so sorry to complain like that. I haven't visited this newsgroup
in a while, and whenever I see a thread discussing the writing during the
last few seasons I grow terribly agitated. I apologize.

Wings Forever, Baby!

I agree. He just seemed so out of character there and I actually wish
we could have seen Brian tying him up with duct tape ;0) I also didn't
like him when Joe was sick and he was keeping him company. He seemed
to take on a whole new personality those 2 times. There were a couple
of other times too.

I thought those were pretty funny times, personally.

Roy bugged me a lot, but that was his character. Casey bugged me a lot
too, but probably just because I didn't care for her too much. Brian
bugged me the way he'd let Casey cling on to him for her every need.

None taken. She was a pill from the moment she came on the show, which
of course ruined her looks, such as they were. Casey was obnoxiously
self-absorbed, but at least she had personality and could provide a
laugh every now and then. In fact, I'd say she was one of the few
characters that got *funnier* as the show went on.

I agree. It's like they forgot what made the show so great during the
first 6 seasons. Some episodes are pretty painful to watch. I see the
same thing happening to ER and The Simpsons right now. I'll admit I
thought they were pretty funny until I saw the earlier episodes. The
3rd Sandy Cooper episode and the 2nd house fire really showed that the
writers were out of ideas, IMHO. There are some episodes from the
last 2 seasons that I love, including The Team Player, The Gift of
Life, Death Becomes Him, and a few others.

I agree with this! The first couple of shows Casey was in, she was not all that
enjoyable to me. But later on, she grew on me. Her line "gee Lucy, ya think we
can pull it off" had me laughing for days! And when she had the flu and had the
date.......she cracked me up!

I'm going to do some very slight Alex defending here. While overall, I
didn't really care for her, she was involved in some very funny
episodes. I loved Black Eye Affair, Moonlighting, Say Uncle Carlton,
the one with Clint Black, and the one where she, Helen, and Antonio
were sharing secrets. She did have an occasional good line too. I
still perfer Alex over Casey.

I have to say that Casey grew on me as well. The Lucy line, and when she
screamed to distract Joe during the trip to Mexico for a quicky divorce ep.

So this is THE Kevin. You are kind of a cult hero with this group.

I want to personally thank you for your Wings Page. I hope you don't mind,
but I downloaded your episode guide and converted it to excel which I shared
with a couple people. That format has worked out well to re-sort a
directory to my almost complete collection. USA is killing me in getting
the few remaining.

I know that we collectively miss the page and your well played theme. Thank
you again for the help you unknowingly provided me as I taped this wonderful
show. Kudos to you for all of your hard work. Have a great holiday.

I'm with ya, Kristen. Alex is actually
the reason I started watching "Wings".
I caught a rerun late one night when
USA used to run them at 11 and thought
she was stunning. I started only watching
"Alex" eps. until the show totally grew on
me.

I liked Casey, too. And totally agree that
she got better as the show went on. She
turned up on the scene as a snob but loosened
up really well. And you guys nailed it naming
the "Lucy" and "Helen's at the store" as
her best lines. Along with the scream because
of the ficticious "mouselet".

Everyone had a very good opinion on how the characters on Wings changes
particularly Joe. It's unlikely for him to buy that make up kit! No matter
how Wings became silly at the end I still loved them. I like the addition of
Alex, her early episodes were funny, and I think her involvement with Brian
was the start of her downfall.
