I think she only knew some of the basics so that her pretending to play would
appear realistic. I'm assuming a professional watched the film of Crystal
playing the cello and matched the movements to get the right sound.
>What other instruments can she play?
She can play her yellow grand piano just FINE! It's been in her family for
more than 30 years, and she has it in her house in the same room with the sofa
from "Gone With The Wind" (she blames a stain on Rhett) and assorted
"Cleopatra" movie props. The reason I know this is that they were seen in the
ep of "Celebrity Homes" which featured Crystal's house.
Greg
Greg, you're right. As a musician and cellist, it is obvious that Crystal is
not really playing the cello, altho' I must say that she does a *superb* job at
acting it; you have no idea how often I find myself bemoaning string players in
movies/tv.... you'd be surprised at how many *actors* they use in the
background - why can't they just use real musicians in scenes (when the
musicians aren't key characters, that is). Maybe actors are less expensive
'cos they're a dime a dozen? Hehe....
As far as the pro "matching the movements to get the right sound", I got a real
chuckle out of that. No offense of course, I know you meant it in the best
sense.... but actually it would *have* to be the other way around. Crystal
would have to match the pro's fingers to get the look of playing that piece.
Not that it matters really, I just thought your wording sounded kinda cute! :)
While on this topic, I've always found it quite interesting that Helen could
never quite break into the music scene. As a string player myself, growing up
in orchestras, I can honestly say that the character of Helen Chappell-Hackett
was truly talented with those songs she played (esp. the one on the finale -
wow leaves me breathless just to listen to it!). She really had a gift, I
don't know if non-musicians realize this and think she was just tinkering
around on it? In light of that I think it all the more frustrating for
her..... obviously living on Nantucket wouldn't help her classical career. :-)
Good cellists are, surprisingly, not that common! :)
Just my rants and raves on this subject, it's 7:30a and I've been up all night,
always a bad time to read the ng!! :)

They should have started a rock band or something. I'm sure "Michael,
Row your Boat Ashore" would make a very good rock song, LOL! ;0)

"My goat knows the bowling score. Halleluia!"

Hee, hee, you beat me to it!!
Greg
They'd both be good. I can see Joe and Antonio wearing identical rock
star outfits and playing at The Club Car ;0) Maybe they could do that
for a new episode...
It sounds a lot more enjoyable than a lot of the stuff that's on TV
now.
And who can forget Fay's drum solo?
