Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone here has every been to the
real Nantucket island? You know, to see the sights that may have made it
into the show, like the old opening sequence with the music and plane
flight. Is there really a Tom Nevers airport there? I was just

I've been to Nantucket a few times, inspired by Wings. The airport is not
called Tom Nevers Field, its just Natucket Municipal Airport. There is an
area called Tom Nevers on the island however. The Rose and Crown and the
Club Car are real restaurants on the island. The Tin Whistle, Night and
Castle, Pontrellis, and La Maison are fictional. I believe I found the
actual house used for Joe and Brian's house (before the fire). Many
exterior shots are authentic, including the long shots of downtown, filmed
from the Old South Church. Ironically, the builiding representing the
bank (when Brian was the guard) is actually a historic mansion, and the
building representing City Hall (Roy's mail order bride) is acutally the
bank! The outside shots of the airport are real, it looks just like that.
Inside the real airport is much bigger, and rather than a lunch counter
there is a real restaurant (featuring the Roy for Mayor poster!)

The Nanucket airport is called Nantucket Memorial, and it is the same
building used in the exterior shots... after the additions and
rennovations. In the airport there is a restaurant with signed pictures of
the cast and different memorabelia. I heard that the airport's interior
originally looked like the set does.

Actually, the exteriors were shot before the additions and renovations,
but that may be what you meant.

Not really. The enterior of the larger building (with the tower on top)
had a real low ceiling and was pretty grungy and claustrophobic. In the
single story building (rarely seen, if ever, its to the right in the
opening shots) is where (at least before the remodel) the counters that
look more like Sandpiper and Aeromass were, and where most travellers
passed through. I hear the two buildings are now connected.
Don't know what they look like inside.
Wow, October of 1989, when we shot those exteriors, seems soooooo long
ago.

Just a moment of nostalgia.

While on this subject, do you have the filming date for "Legacy"? And was
it filmed live before an audience?

Thanks
Arun

We filmed it before a studio audience around mid-January 1990. Can't
recall the exact date and I'm on vacation and could not care LESS about
looking it up!! <G>
