Little Man From Another Place. It refers to the dancing dwarf in the Red
Room. (In the credits, he is referred to as the Man From Another
Place... someone must've added 'Little' at some point...)

Little Man From Another Place, or the little guy in the red suit who is
the gatekeeper (?) of the Lodges.

Correct, and it is one of my PET PEEVES!!!

Please join me in using TMFAP, not LMFAP.

LMFAP is also correct. In the TP soundtrack, there are pictures of most
characters, with both the actors' and characters' names. Here he is referred
to as 35. Michael Anderson - Little Man From Another Place.

Please, get over it.

LMFAP is the Little Man from a Far Away Place. He was formed from the
one armed man. The arm he lopped off to get the evil out of him
became LMFAP.

Suit yourself. However, a CD stoundtrack is hardly in the same class with
the credits to the series and the scripts for same, all which all use
TMFAP.

I guess I can take that for a 'no'. :-)

But before you make up your mind, ask yourself, if you were under 4 foot
tall and tired of jokes about your height, which would you prefer?

Rich, You know a whole hell of a lot about TP, and I respect
your opinion immensely, so I'm wondering if you are short
and this is why LMFAP is a sore spot for you? I know thats
kind of a personal question, so you don't have to answer.

Thanks for the compliment.

I'm 5'5" which makes me short by contemporary US standards, about average
in Japan, and practically one of 'the little people' by Nubian standards
:-) Now that you mention it, I suppose that could be a reason based on
experiences in high school that I have mostly forgotten. I happened to be
in a particularly cranky mood at the time I wrote the original post.

In any case, some of 'the little people' as I understand it, are
particularly upset at having their height be the thing that people single
out. I'm not sure exactly how Michael Anderson feels about it. He makes
jokes like 'women like a man who can walk up to them and kiss them right
on the lips', but lots of people in similar situations make jokes about
things that they deeply resent. (Did you see the episode in Picket Fences
where he falls in love with Lauren Hutton's character and is ultimately
rejected?)

So, given that the character _is_ TMFAP in all the credits and scripts,
why not use that rather than one that focuses attention on only one aspect
of him? However, I am not interested in making a crusade out of it. I've
made my point and will just continue to use it in my own posts.

I really don't have a strong opinion one way or the other on this,
except I think that using LMFAP is probably okay. My logic is that
LMFAP is not just a term that we the fans use. Granted, I don't
remember the name being used in the series or in FWWM, but in the TP
soundtrack, it has his picture and underneath says, "Michael Anderson:
Little Man From Another Place." Since this was the name actually used
by those involved in production, I would assume that Michael Anderson
did not have a problem with the name of his character or would not
have continued his involvement with TP. This is all only my opinion, of
course.

Why, exactly, is this the case? Lynch did the CD cover too.

I guess you should call the giant the vertically advanced man. Again, who
actually cares? 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

Ok Rich, You've made your point. In your honor, I will
officially change the name my bong to TMFAP. :) (even
though my bong is little)
