Did David Lynch have anything to do with "Fargo,"or have the Coen brothers just
perfected their art? Twin Peaks had lumber; "Fargo" had snow; both had
characters in the truest sense.

Also: I just watched the premiere episode of "Twin Peaks" last night; my first
viewing in probably a couple of years. I know hindsight is 20/20, but when
Leland/Bob asked the Deputy who was confiscating various articles from Laura's
room, "Do you have to take that?" in reference to her diary, I got chills.

I'm glad to have that off my chest. Back to my drapes.

I just this past weekend finished my second viewing of the entire TP
series, taking it in at least 2-episode chunks. It, of course, loses
something in the translation by not being viewed one weekly episode at
a time -- not to mention that I knew what was coming next -- but I was
still sucked totally in by it right up to the last "How's Annie?!"

Someone a while back said TP was the most important event in television
history. I wouldn't go that far, but I would say it ranks right up
there with the "most significant." If anything, I've never encountered
any secular storyline that so perceptively examines the battle of good
against evil -- St Paul's "principalities and powers," etc.

Just talking about it makes me want to watch it again in a few weeks!

my best, etc,

I am pretty sure that David Lynch did not have anything to do with Fargo,
but I do see some of the similarities that you mentioned. Perhaps the
Coen brothers were influenced a bit by Lynch. However, Lynch was never
nearly so clever with his humor as the Coen brothers, and the Coen
brothers were never nearly so sick, dark, and twisted as David Lynch.
Anyways, I love them both.

I think I'd disagree on both counts.

Actually, I'd be surprised if ANYTHING in FARGO was intended as a direct
homage to David Lynch.

this is hilarious because this Original post is from 1996, and i'm posting from 2014. hence you arent even aware of Fargo the television show. Apparently the Coen brother are able to be a bit sick, dark, and twisted. Regardless there still is that humor you mentioned. So if you are still alive... you were half right.
