After watching the recent "marathon" on Bravo on the
28th,I am struck again by the chemistry between Cooper and
Audrey. With apologies to Heather Graham fans, I never got
the same feeling between Cooper and Annie that there is
between Cooper and Audrey. Is this silly, wishful thinking?
After all, look at the scene when Audrey sneaks into
Cooper's bed- "Audrey, what I want and need are two
different things" And look at the scene where Cooper rescues
Audrey from One Eyed Jacks--Cooper seems to be a bit more
concerned than simple sexual facination or "friendship"
would suggest. What does anyone else think? Perhaps I just
wish Lynch did something more between the two. I feel as if
Annie is a second season add-on whereas Audrey is a more
developed (if not more immature)character. Feedback
please...

Agree completely. How about the scene where Audrey comes to Coop's room after Ben has been arrested. As they're talking Aundrey sits on his bed in what has
to be the most intoxicating pose of all time. Then the call comes in that Maddie has been killed and Coop has to leave. Even though Coop always maintained
around Audrey I always got the feeling that she was twisting him up in knots. I never got that from Annie, she seemed to be more of project that appealed to
Coop's need to be "super protector."

The same pose as Laura on the bed at the motel in FWWM, and on the cover of
the video...

Who? Annie or Audrey? I think both... Have you ever noticed the similarites
between the rescue of Audrey and the rescue of Annie...

No, it's completely and utterly correct.

Cooper's relationship with Annie came out of nothing more than his desperate grasping at a
pseudo-Caroline.

<snipping original post>

Hi there. Yeah; a lot of people prefer Cooper/Audrey, and the setup is there
for a reason, particularly in early Season 2 -- b/c the writers were setting up
the Cooper/Audrey love story to be the second arc of the season after they
wrapped up the Laura Palmer mystery in Ep 16 (this week) . However, Kyle
MacLachlan apparently nixed it, claiming his character, the straight-arrow FBI
man, wouldn't get involved with a high school senior, and so the writers had to
kill the story despite the excellent setup, and the show floundered in a host
of silly plotlines that were originally planned to be subplots for the
Cooper/Audrey story for about 6 or so episodes. While I can respect and
understand Kyle's feelings on the matter, I still would have to say "hell with
it" -- not only did the loss of the Coop/Audrey story compromise the show's
quality, but the setup and chemistry between MacLachlan and Fenn was too
excellent to be thrown away. But it was.

And I loved the scene at the end of last week too. Bleh.

When Kyle MacLachlan refused to let his character get involved with a
school girl and recent suspect in a case he investigated, the
producers were forced to bring in the Annie character at the last
moment. It is conceivable that had the Cooper/Audrey storyline be
allowed to play out that Audrey would have been the one to be crowned
Miss Twin Peaks and taken, by Earle, into the Black Lodge. She could
have been a pseudo-Caroline, because we didn't know what Caroline
looked like until *after* Graham was cast.

That IS the cause of, but not a lasting creative influence on, the Annie plotline.

I never wanted Coop to get down-and-dirty with a schoolgirl, but the relationship
definitely should've been explored a lot deeper than it was. Platonic love stories are
utterly fascinating... hasn't anyone seen 'Leon' for chissakes?!? ;)

WE didn't... that doesn't mean the writers didn't.

The Annie "romance" was far too contrived, too convenient, and frankly, extremely un-TP.
It looks this way because we haven't seen the bigger picture, and we never will. But I am
certain season 3 would have revealed the truth about Annie, that she was very much Black
Lodge influenced. An apparently successful bid by the evil powers-that-be to lure Dale
Cooper into their control.

Well, that IS in a dream sequence... in which Cooper's forbidden (dare I say "paternal")
sexual attraction is the reason that he - temporarily - knows who killed Laura.

If I recall correctly, Sherilyn Fenn was 25 or 26 when she
filmed TP, whereas Heather Graham was indeed only 20 or
so. This is indeed a little odd, as Audrey was of course a
high schooler and Annie was several years out of school.

There was supposed to be an affair between Dale and Audrey, but MacLachlan dug
in his heels and refused to go along with the idea. So then Annie was brought
in out of left field to provide a love interest.

I think the "Babes of TP" thread has been started anyway,
regardless of Adam Cook's intentions. I've been haunting
this group irregularly since 1994, and in my experience
there's always a thread like this going on somewhere. My
impressions:

Sherilyn: She was IT back in the day, but have you seen
her lately? The magic is gone, fellows.

Sheryl Lee: Terrific as Maddy -- she always looked better
as a brunette than as a blonde. As horrid as that little song
with James was, the bit where she's making eyes at him...
oh yeah! She's so very talented, too; she can project
emotion like nobody.

Madchen: Those eyes! Appearance-wise, she can hold her
own with any gal in the series, but she didn't project sexuality
like Sherilyn did and like Sheryl could.

Joan: I'm a big fan of Asian women, but Joan's just cute. That
too-soft voice was meant to be appealing, but I found it irritating.

Lara: Cute, but that's about it. She's a good actress, though.

Peggy: I've got a soft spot for those sexy older woman types.
I think she's a real beauty, and she's got a great voice, too. It
all comes together when she smiles, though. She's got one of
the best smiles of any actress I've ever seen...she just lights
up.

Heather: She's gorgeous, but she was so green as an actress
back then...I couldn't get around her wooden performances.
She had almost no chemistry with Kyle.

She's a beauty, but the poster you quoted is correct:
Kyle McLachlan and Heather Graham had almost no
chemistry, and this was largely due to Graham's poor
acting.
