LOS ANGELES, April 1, 1998 -- Spelling Films, a division of Spelling
Entertainment Group Inc. (NYSE and PE: SP), announced plans today to
remake David Lynch's cult film classic "Eraserhead." Peter H. Bachmann,
Executive Vice President, Office of the President of Spelling
Entertainment Group Inc., said, "We look forward to updating this
classic film for the 90's. The original is a bit confusing to modern
audiences. We hope to be faithful to the original, but also to add that
Spelling touch we've shown with some of our television products, such as
Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place. The original was so dark, we want
to make it a more modern, hip film." The project is tentatively titled
"Eraserhead 2000."
Casting has already begun for Eraserhead 2000. In a major coup following
his success in Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio has been cast in the role of
Henry, the lead character originally played by the late Jack Nance. Tori
Spelling, a long-time veteran of Spelling projects, has been cast in the
role of MaryX. Pauly Shore has been offered the role of "The Man in the
Planet." "I'm looking forward to spicing up the role with my comic
talents" Shore said. In keeping with the trends of modern films, the
baby, a major focus of the film, will be digitally created with cgi
graphics. "This will allow us to do all kinds of things with it they
couldn't in the original. We're even thinking of having it dance around,
like the one on Ally McBeal!" Bachmann reported. Rounding out the
"Eraserhead 2000" team will be director Joel Schumacher, who is credited
as saving the Batman series from Tim Burton's overly-dark vision. "Films
should be fun!" Schumacher said. "That's what I want to do with
Erasehead 2000, make a fun film everyone will enjoy, even the kids!"
The project is scheduled to start filming in the summer of 98, in time
for a Christmas 98 release.

before April came around?
Brilliant Mike, absolutely brilliant!

My God, Mr. Dunn, please say this is an April Fool's joke.

I wrote it on the 31st, after hearing the news about the Psycho remake
(which unfortunately wasn't a joke). I figured, if hollywood wants to
try to remake Casablanca and Psycho, why not Eraserhead too? In fact,
the line in the Eraserhead joke about making it for a "younger, hipper
audience" was taken directly from the Psycho press release.

Good God, they're remaking "Casablanca", too??? What's up with this?
Remaking "Psycho" is bad enough. Also, what ever happened to those plans to
remake "Rear Window" starring Christopher Reeve, that I heard about on some
entertainment show? Soon enough, we'll have a new "Blue Velvet" with
Leonardo DiCaprio as Jeffrey Beaumont, Neve Campbell as Dorothy Vallens, and
Greg Kinnear as Frank Booth!!!
Greg Kinnear. That would be really terrifying.
You know, with Bruce Willis as Ben, that might just work :)

This reminds me of something that really pisses me off. The other day I
was at the movies and I saw a poster for an upcoming movie called “The
Perfect Murder” or something to that effect. I thought “Huh, looks
interesting”. It turns out its a remake of “Dial M for Murder” with a
different title! I hear the laser and weapons effects alone are running
about $20 million.
Studio Exec A: We’re all out of good ideas.
Studio Exec B: That’s okay. We’ll just make a lame remake of a great 40
year old Hitchcock movie and slap another title on it. It will star Bruce
Willis and Julia Roberts. The whole thing takes place in one room so we
should be able to do it for $90 million, tops.
Studio Exec A: It’ll be great! I don’t see how it could fail!
Studio Exec B: I know! It’s fantastic, huh! Also, we’re working on a
remake of “The Godfather.” We’re thinking of Tom Cruise for Don Corleone,
Brad Pitt as Sonny, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Michael. Also, we’re
developing some dynamite scripts for “Rhoda” and “What’s Happening Now!”
screen adaptations.
Studio Exec A: It looks like it’s gonna be a good year!
The sad thing about the movie “The Player” is that it is 100% accurate.
There have been about a million remakes in the past couple of years and
they all f***ing suck! Either remake an old movie that was good to begin
with, or make a movie out of an old TV show, or failing that, a toy or a
video game.
Okay so the “Brady Bunch” 1 and 2 were pretty well done, and pretty damn
funny if you saw every Brady episode five times like I did. But other
than that, every remake or TV show movie I have seen has been absolutely
awful. Remember “The Flintstones”? God, what was Kyle MacLaughlin
thinking? “Showgirls” was better that that - at least it had some nudity!
I’m praying to God that the X-Files movie is good, but it should be,
since the same people are doing it that do the TV show. But this remake
crap started to pick up about 10 to 12 years ago but it has really gotten
out of hand over the past few years. There are so many remakes now that I
can’t even remember them all.
Everyone is spending so much time, money, and energy remaking stuff that
doesn’t need (or deserve) to be remade! Name one reason that “Dial M for
Murder” needs to be remade! It was a great movie - it can only go
downhill from there. A Hollywood remake is literally someone stealing and
copying something that someone else already did, and almost always doing
it much worse, as pathetic as that is!
It’s the same thing with music stars covering old songs. Don’t get me
started on that!
The point is, CAN’T ANYONE WRITE ANY GODDAM MOTHERF***ING NEW F***ING
SH*T?
Chucky
and i hear 'city of angels' starring meg ryan is released soon, a remake
of one of my favourite films wim wenders' 'wings of desire'yeah... it
*really* needed to be redone. hooray for hollywood.

Drew Barrymore. They've both got the same cheeks.
I read recently that they asked Chris Rock to be in the 'Sanford and Son'
remake, and he told them where they could stick it...he said that Sanford
and Son was Redd Foxx, and without Redd Foxx, how could they remake it? I
feel the same about Psycho. That film _is_ Hitchcock. How can you do it
without him? Gus van Sant is such a friggin' sellout.
-Matt Miller
Actually, I'm looking forward to "City of Angels". ANYTHING has to be better
than that boring piece of crap "Wings of Desire", which I rented the other day.
And don't even get me STARTED on the incomprehensible sequel, "Faraway, So
Close", which I saw in the theater. 6 bucks and two hours of my life, gone....
I DID like Wim Wenders' "Until the End of the World", however. I'd love to see
the five hour version.

saved what? oh yeah, the last two have been so much better, i'm sorry but
putting schumacher in charge is a death wish, more so if they let him express
more of his unique (crappy) artistic prowess.

Take your hand, spread it flat, and then sweep it backward slightly above
